You're hard. I'd've said the same.

Bjork's "Who Is It?" is a pretty great song on a really queasy album.

Holy crap. I forgot "Evil" by Interpol, "Beating Heart Baby" by Head Automatica, and the first 3 tracks on the Beep Beep album.

yeah, "evil" is a frighteningly good song, particularly given the sub-par songwriting that makes up the album it finds itself on.

For me I would probably say:

Bows and Arrows by the Walkmen

Other contenders:

The Rat
Float On
Positive Jam by the Hold Steady
I Will be Thine by the White Hassle (amazing song, ok album)
Naked Burn by Mastodon

Having just last week bought the first 2 CDs I've bought in a year and a half, I can say without hesitation that Nick Cave's "There She Goes, My Beautiful World" is the best song of 2004 in my collection.

I suspect that, were I to catch up and buy 100 or so of the best discs of 2004, "There She Goes..." would still be Top 5.
