no, it was a swift, merciless, rogue action.

Haq, I see your point, and it's your call.

However, my 2¢...we designated mods based on their judgement, thus we should not condemn the mods when they exercise said judgement. It's always going to be subjective, there's no avoiding it. As for me, I've got no problem with a mod killing a thread about videos of someone taking a dump.

That's true, and I hope I did less than condemn Darrin. I disagreed with him (maybe mods, like parents, shouldn't disagree in front of the kids?), but I didn't reverse his action. I really don't think my opinion should count much more than anyone else's on this kind of thing, but my general rule for moderation is to limit it to things that are universally offensive (spam, unlabeled NSFW threads) or that could actual make real-life trouble for people.

Yeah, if you start banning threads that are just stupid, we'll be down to only two or three new threads a day.

where are these unlabeled NSFW threads you speak of?

oh, you mean the NSFW thread clearly labeled in the title so it draws attention?

I agree that we designated mods based on their judgement; however, we didn't designated them based on taste.

But if I see anything on this board again that rivals this in sheer dumbness it's getting deleted.

Plenty rivals that thread in "sheer dumbness", including threads started by the moderator himself. It's not unheard of for shitting to come up in threads, whether it's just dumb ("My SO Sharted") or trying to illustrate a point ("i, for one, don't look at it from work unless i'm on my phone and taking a doodoo because i like my job").

The thread in question was labled as NSFW and included a link to YouTube, which isn't terribly racy territory either.

From what I remember, we also didn't want to burden moderators with exhausting oversight responsibilities.

Well, to be honest, it was discussed in chat, sort of in real time as it was happening, that particular day.

And for what its worth, I told Darrin that I supported his move at the time--neither of us really felt that the thread was "objectionable" insomuch as it was potentially harmful to the board or any of its members. We did both agree that it was stupid as shit and even admitted to each other at the time that we may have just been having a "day" where our tolerance for bullshit and silliness were low.

I also realized that it would prbably cause a stir and someone's feelings might get hurt, but I guess that's just life.

I am neither a mod nor the admin but I do post here a lot so I'll just add this: I think we all enjoy the fact Obner is relatively unmoderated and hope that it continues to be that way with the exception of the things that Haq mentioned above. As you can imagine, I find it difficult to post on boards where you arent allowed to personally insult people since it is my main form of communication. I don't really have a problem with what Darrin did in this case but agree that it probably could have been handled differently (a PM to cats just kinda saying "c'mon dude")

I also hope Darrin will get over it and come back and be a mod; If he doesnt though, I nominate myself to fill his position.
:D

Ya know, it's damned if we mod, damned if we don't. If no one has posted in one of those stupid spammer threads, I delete it. If someone is dumb enough to make comments in it, I send it to the Sk8tr boi forum cuz I'll never hear the end of "how I lost some of my post count".

I post in those things for fun. But you have my unequivocal permission to delete them as you see fit. I don't give a shit about my post count.

Darrin just locked a thread (containing a dumb Youtube video about a girl pooping), in what I thought was kind of an arbitrary move, given that we've allowed all sorts of stupid crap in the past, and there didn't seem like a good reason to draw the line there. Then Darrin got pissed and asked what the point was of having moderators and changed his name to Position Vacant.

I kneeeewww there must have been drama. Sad.

I can't remember the last time a post made me say "Holy Shit" out loud. Twice.

I don't remember which one it was.

Also, is Darrin gone for good, or just pretending to study for his "exams"

I've had 'Winter Vomiting Bug' (or Norwalk virus) for the past few days. As good as it sounds.
