Husker Du 1987 Variety Arts Theater LA - sitting about 20 feet from the bank of speakers I had buzzing in the ears for a week.

Mogwai 2002 Fillmore SF - had a painful back condition and the wash of the bass lines seemed to vibrate the bones in the spine and heal it

I would have to say that mine is The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion at Metro back in 1995 or 1996 (I can't remember).

I could feel my eardrums vibrating and was experiencing natural distortion due to that hypervibration. Yes, it was painful. Very painful. Maybe it was just that I forgot my earplugs, but I do not thing that I have ever experienced anything like that.

And then he broke out the Theremin, and I was on my knees. Literally!
I had to leave the room a few times because it hurt so damn bad.

Not a good thing.
It could have, otherwise, been a helluva show.

i'd kill to see jon spencer. in any way shape or form. he's so fucking dreamy.

This probably doesn't help, but he played in Charlottesville in October w/ Heavy Trash.

Funny, I spent my whole Mogwai show with a serious backache.

For me:

Mogwai - I had earplugs with me but they were useless. I spent the whole show pushing them in further and further.

Spiritualized - tour for Let It Come Down - insane.

Loudest show I wish I could have seen: My Bloody Valentine.

Overtly loud doesn't impress me anymore. Ears tired... need rest.
My own band was pretty damn loud for a "spacey" band.

i saw jsbx at an outdoor festival, so it didn't seem like a really loud show. i did, though, hear "BLUES EXPLOSION!" enough to last a lifetime.

oh, and the ponys are terribly loud live. even outdoors i feel like it's too much. actually, i just think it's jered because one of his other bands, hot machines, is also really loud.

konono #1 was monstrously loud for being based around 3 kalimba players.

My whole body was stiff for a couple days from flinching repeatedly at certain frequencies.

Still, an awesome show.

Megadeth at the Fox in Atlanta, 1996.

I ushered. They called a bunch of us at home, like "could you pleeease come in" because none of the little old lady ushers wanted to do the show, for some reason, and they were short on people. LOUD. And surprisingly good.

Fugazi, The Masquerade in ATL, 1992?

This was "good" loud. I stood near the back, and the bass still thumped me squarely in the chest. Combined with that wall of sound from both guitars, it was an eye opener for a 16-yr old. I hadn't really heard anything that intense before... where "loud" meets "beautiful."
