I'm confused. Were the Transformers those little tigers that you put together to a form a huge robot?

well, i guess i will be the only voice of reason here... there's no license that could get my hopes up for a michael bay picture.

That's usually how I feel, but the fact that Spielberg is executive producer might mean its not a pos. Bay is a bit of a hack director, but with a little guidance, I feel like he can do some good things.

And we know how any trailer can make a movie look good, but I think this could actually be really good.

I also had a huge collection of Playmobil. I don't know how popular they were in the U.S., but in Europe, they were huge.

I bought a Transformer (blitzkreig) online one day 4 years ago in a fit of nostalgia. I can't wait to see this shit. IF THEY HAVE OLD SCHOOL CHARACTERS. If it's 40 newbies and 2 old schoolers screw that.

When I was a kid I was crazy for these pre-Transformer Japanese robots called Shogun Warriors.

Apparently they're worth a lot of money now.

But Transformer did have Voltron-like characters such as Omega Supreme, the Dinobots and the Constructicons.

I'll just go and kill myself now.

i am going to guess that spielberg had zero creative input or influence. dreamworks is a producer and distributor of the film is all. i notice they already have a sequel on the breadown.

also, i will mention that while it looks like i am in this thread just to poo-poo the movie, i obviously hold out some remote hope that it could be good. it's just highly unlikely.

If Spielberg puts his name on something, he's usually involved at some creative level. He was very hands-on as an exec producer for Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Pinky & the Brain, and Freakazoid.

That I can't say. Perhaps there's a TV film/distinction here, but I still don't see a strong basis yet to assume he's there in name only. While he technically may be an exec producer for Shrek because of Dreamworks, he's not credited.
