did you happen to hear that the country is in a war that it can't get out of and no one knows why?
Oh, I know why. It's because of the type of people who think it's OK to go around calling people "faggots".
And I'd suggest that our country's not in a war - our military is. Our country's worried about who dumped their load into Anna Nicole Smith, & who's gonna win this year's "American Idol".
in my view, the country would be more worried about what actually going on in the world if the media would focus on it instead of crap like this. i don't see it as much different from the anna nicole bullshit. the system only works if there is transparancy and the only way that happens is if the government is held accountable by the media. you can blame the average joe for not being civic minded, but he doesn't get much of a chance to be because the information he has easy access to is total garbage. and that's intentional.
I agree 100% on the idea that the media hasn't been doing their jobs for a looooooong time - especially TV news. Probably 95% of TV news is out & out garbage.
BUT - I think there's loads of loads of accessible, good info out there. The Internet's everywhere now, & for those without it there's still a lot of good newspapers. People just choose to ignore it.
I've had some interesting observations in this job I started a couple months ago...in the breakroom, there's 3 plasma screen TV's. One's tuned to Fox News, one's on CNN, & the last one's on Headline News. My dinner break coincides with when the dreckfest "Nancy Grace" airs. And when I enter that breakroom, everyone - EVERYONE - is clustered around TV #3.
And when my coworkers are sitting around shootin' the shit, these are the topics of conversation :
1. Anna Nicole Smith
2. "American Idol"
3. Whatever "abducted child" story if Nancy Grace's story du jour.
4. Whatever pile of dogshit movie came out the weekend previous ( take your pick - "Norbit", "Wild Hogs", etc. ) .
And these are what I would consider average, nice, "regular American" people. I've never heard them talk about anything remotely political in 2 months.
