Suck on that, Wal-Mart.

For whom do you work, and what is it you do for them?

Zeller's. It's a Canadian Target/Wal-Mart-type store.

I run the neighborhood market.

I can legally stick needles absolutely anywhere on anyone's person.

In fact, many request this.

- Paid well in the world's strongest currency
- 37.5 hours / week; overtime is a rarity and never forced
- Good at what I do, and I get recognized for it
- 15 minute walk from new house
- Can use benefit points to bring vacation up to 7 weeks
- Boss stopped giving a shit two years ago; two buyouts will do that to you

I wish I had something to say to this question.

Uhhh...
The only dress code we have is black (or grey or something close or short enough) from the waist down, and a shirt showing the company logo on the upper half. No tattoo or piercing or hair color or whatever rules. I just went back to teal streaks, and no one even noticed.
If you've worked there long enough you have the power of the veteran; it's ok if you show up an hour and a half late as long as you don't do it more than once a week. And if you're hungover/still drunk when you get to work in the morning, whatever, it's comic relief for everyone else. As long as you were on time.
It's service industry. I can quit whenever. And take time off whenever. And switch shifts whenever. It's the only industry to completely fit into an active persons' life.

Yeah. That's all I got.

Oh, yeah... since I don't work in a corporate restaurant, the customer is NEVER (or at least rarely) right. I've heard so many ridiculous claims over the years, that it's nice to see the managers feel the same, and won't let some asshole get away with a free meal just because he complained that his french fries tasted like potatoes. Yes, I've gotten that complaint before.

Anyway...

none reasons. I like my job but I wouldn't be able to explain why, and I think that I'm pretty close to getting stuck in one role for a long time.

- ample Sudoku time most mornings
- "Office Space"-esque events like Wacky Hat Day or Pumpkin Decorating Contests that could be horrible but almost always result in decent prizes for me (although my Breakdaning Gene Shalit Pumpkin did not win this past October, strangely enough)

My job is far from perfect, but I think it beats the hell out of almost any other lawyer job:

- Work is only part of my life, not my entire life
- Great office atmosphere - very laid back, great people, low stress
- On Fridays, I'm either off or working from home
- Pretty decent pay, especially considering that I average only 40 hours per week
- It's cool to take off and go to NZ for 7 weeks
- And I get to sue polluters

Little close supervision (I'm not sure I actually have a supervisor in any real sense)
Relatively interesting/useful work
Very flexible hours 26 wks/yr, somewhat flexible the other half
Bennies and pay are decent
Free coffee, often free doughnuts
Really only two chances in seven years to get fired, barring really egregious behaviour. If not fired then, job for life if I want it. If fired then, can return to bartending with solid nest egg.
Own office with door, walls all the way to the ceiling

My own office. Involved in some high level goverment and get to see it's inner workings. Yep, that's about it. The rest sucks.
