Damn, you really need a high tolerance for cheese to like this one. Seems our tousle-haired hero needs to UP his speedball rations, if you ask me.

I love Ryan Adams. I have never heard a Ryan Adams album I did not like (except Rock'n Roll). Never really payed much attention to the perripheral (sp.?)crap surrounding him, just love his music period. Have not heard the new one yet as I'm still old school and actually wait for things to come out and purchase them at a store. I'm sure I'll like it.

The "peripheral crap" has got nothing to do with it. This album just flat out sucks.

I enjoy some of the music a lot, but the lyrics do NOT reward a close listening.

This album is seriously some easy listening...

Reminds me a lot of "Jacksonville", except without the sleeve over the heart. This is the most unchallenging album I've heard from Ryan Adams by far - and feel free to take that however you want to...

I feel like this one will grow on me a lot. So far, fairly good.

I felt the same at first and now absolutely love it, save for some of the faux Neil Young vocals here and there. Really wish he'd have used his "concert voice" on some of those tunes instead. The live versions of "I Taught Myself How To Grow Old" and "Off Broadway" are so much better without the overt Youngization he affects on the album.

yup. You get a sense that he's acting, and maybe all the time. That he's deciding which persona to put on for this song, or that album, etc. I
m not a holdout queen for authenticity... if the writing's good, and it's well-executed, I don't really care much. But I do notice it.

As Busty said, those first 4 songs = TEH CATCHY.

I was torn at first whether or not I thought this was a good record or just a bunch of Jacksonville City Nights leftovers.

After a few listens though I really like it.
