Just like avoiding certain gas stations ain't avoiding Saudi oil.

Gross. Makes me wonder what the cow farms are like. I don't eat KFC much but this might make me stop eating fastfood all together.

come on, no one here really knows about how chicken farms are run? pretty much all chicken farms are run indoors and chickens cannot go outside. the killing is probably different, but the conditions theyre raised in are pretty much the same. peta is a joke. they might get some of my respect if not for their methods, which i find to be pathetic and unneccesary.

The cow farms are similar. They're really tightly packed and fed the cheapest of protein rich foods (sometimes pig/horse brains and spinal cords - used to be pellets made of ground cow till someone realized that cannibalistic cows = mad cow disease), then they're led in for the slaughter, where they're shocked with a prod (but a lot of times this is screwed up so they're not actually unconscious) and their necks are cut by a machine or as nessy said, their heads crushed (again, sometimes not so well, so they go on living for a bit), etc. etc.

haq, youre partly right with cow farms. feed lots are run that way. there are many smaller farmers, like my grandparents and uncle who only feed grain, hay or silage(a mixture of grain and hay), have lots of room when their in their pens in the winter, and go out to pasture in the summer. there are plenty of smaller farms that are run very humanely, its the feed lots that are run that way.

Better would be a screenshot from Pink Flamingos.

As John Waters said, "I like to think those chickens led a pretty fruitful life. They got to be a movie, they got fucked, and they got to be someone's dinner. Doesn't sound that bad to me."

C'mon Billy, I'll show you the killing floor! Oh, don't be confused by the name, it's hardly a floor at all, more of a mesh screen that allows loose particles and blood to sluice through.

I knew a guy who made his living cleaning out the mesh screen in the chicken houses of Farmerville, LA. It was one of the nastiest job descriptions I've ever heard. I didn't even like driving by those places in the summer, much less going in.

I read Fast Food Nation and it didn't bother me one bit. Nor did it surprise me. I guess if maybe you thought animals souls were just spirited away and the meat was gently, respectfully removed from the animals and tucked carefully into containers and such, then you might be disturbed. I just figured it was common sense - humans eat a lot of meat, therefore we need a fast, easy process in order to get the meat, which means it's not going to be a particularly pretty or respectful process. That's not saying I agree with the weird sickos who like to torture the animals by kicking on them, stepping on them, etc. as one video I saw showed (perhaps this is the one? I can't click as I'm at work.) But anyone who was shocked at hearing that the meat industry isn't a wonderful, beautiful thing . . . well, I guess you needed your eyes opened.

When it comes to fast food, I'm more concerned about fat and sodium, not how the animals were treated. Which is why I try to limit my fast food intake. But Chick-fil-a, as someone said . . . that's worth a little artery hardening.

Like a friend of mine says: "If God didn't want us to eat meat, why'd he make it taste so damn good?"

It's called the food chain. People that don't know/think this kind of shit is going on are just kidding themselves. If you don't want to eat chicken/meat or whatever because of this, good. More for me.

Sorry to be so insensitive, but come the fuck on you guys.

Why is this a reason for the animals to lead miserable, painful and uncomfortable lives until they're killed?

Yeah, it's the food chain and yeah chickens are stupid,, but any living creature should at least be able to move around a little.

Yeah, maybe we should give them a little chicken condo complete with cable television. C'mon now. Do you really believe that giving a chicken another foot to move around is really going to make a difference? Maybe the chicken will thank us right before it gets it's head chopped off.

When I was in college I write an article about this sort of thing in the university paper and promptly got most of my friends to stop eating chicken. If you guys though KFC was giving their chickens a shampoo and a rubdown before they go on that little belt you're fucking stupid. In large-scale operations they're going to set it up as easy as possible with little regard to the humane treatment of animals, except of course when it affects the taste of them. This is especially true of companies that everyone knows like Tyson, Perdue, Hormel, etc...
see, it's not the chickens that bother me. They're like the insects of the farm. Cows, on the other hand, have eyelashes, which makes them far easier to find adorable. both are delicious.
As a result, I rarely eat fast food and try to get free range organic meats whenever possible. That being said, I'm going to reserve the right to eat what I want and crack jokes whenever the fuck I please.

This is hyperbole and not at all what I was saying. Factory chickens can't move at all because they're force-fed, artifically inseminated and spend their entire lives packed together on mesh. That's hardly the same as giving them a condo. Give them a fucking barnyard, even if it's a bigass factory one.

What I'm saying is that it's not going to make a difference whether they have 20 miles to run around in or 2 inches. Either way they're going to die the same horrible death. And if you give me the 'live more comfortably' excuse, then I'll tell you that chickens don't have the brain capacity to remember what happens to them three seconds beforehand. And it's not like they're going to be any happier because they can't experience feelings. And if you think a corporation is going to shell out money to give a chicken more space, then you are truly naive. I'll tell you what I think, I think you're just disgusted by the fact that the chicken you eat lives in it's own shit for a couple months beforehand.
