I gotta admit that I have no idea how people come up with the order for these kinds of lists. I can come up with my fave 30 albums of the '00s, but the difference between #1 and #30 is pretty negligible. Ditto my shmoople lists, for those of you playing the home game.

1. Frank Black Black Letter Days
2. Ike Reilly Salesmen & Racists
3. Tsar Tsar
4. The Bicycle Thief You Come and Go Like A Pop Song
5. Joe Henry Scar
6. Spoon Gimme Fiction
7. Reigning Sound Time Bomb High School
8. Ted Leo & the Pharmacists Tyranny of Distance
9. The Strokes Is This It
10. You Am I Dress Me Slowly
11. The Libertines Up The Bracket
12. Drive-by Truckers The Dirty South
13. The Notwist Neon Golden
14. Cat Power The Greatest
15. Grand Mal Bad Timing
16. My Morning Jacket Okonokos
17. Weakerthans Reconstruction Site
18. Sparklehorse Dreamt For Light Years In The Belly Of A Mountain
19. Dom Mariani Homespun Blues and Greens
20. Joe Pisapia Daydreams
21. Jim White Drill A Hole in That Substrate...
22. Warren Zanes Memory Girls
23. Rancid Indestructible
24. Tift Merritt Tambourine

I feel the same way, which is why I do the points on my shmoo poll the way I do.

I think the order is generally relevant in blocks of five or ten but the difference between say 13 & 14 is indeed often neglible. Thus shmoo's methodology.

It was inevitable since there were such a limited pool for DJ to choose from. Foghat, Uriah Heep and Black Oak Arkansas didn't release anything new in the 00's.

damn, this was a lot harder than i thought it would be. especially trying to only allow one album per artist. 2nd and even 3rd albums by some of these guys would fill up some of the slots here.

i also tried to not put antying on from this year, but that richard hawley is too good.

no order here:

wilco.a ghost is born
my morning jacket.at dawn
sigur ros.agaetis byrjun

iron & wine.the creek drank the cradle
joe strummer & the mescaleros.global a go-go

doves.lost souls
the national.sad songs for dirty lovers
M83.dead cities, red seas & lost ghosts
tv on the radio.return to cookie mountain
manitoba.up in flames
belle & sebastian.the life pursuit
the constantines.shine a light
m. ward.transfiguration of vincent
radio dept.lesser matters
nick cave.abattoir blues/the lyre of orpheus
llhasa.the living road
bonnie "prince" billy.ease down the road
elbow.asleep in the back
and you will know us by the trail of dead.source tags and codes
ali farka touré.savane
hot chip.the warning
nathan fake.drowning in a sea of love
yo la tengo.and then everything turned itself inside-out
delgados.hate

Of course with 8 years of Konstantiranks behind me I'm well placed to produce my Top 100 albums of the 00's, established over a decade with consistant methodology, on the 1st Jan 2010.

The current standings are **top secret** but as a teaser I'll give you my 101 - 110.

101 The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan (2005)
102 King Creosote - Rocket D.I.Y (2005)
103 New Order - Get Ready (2001)
104 Little Barrie - Stand Your Ground (2007)
105 Million Dead - A Song To Ruin (2003)
106 Boards of Canada - Campfire Headphase (2005)
107 Amon Tobin - From Out From Out Where (2002)
108 Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond (2007)
109 Roddy Frame - Western Skies (2006)
110 Roots Manuva - Awfully Deep (2005)
