Yes. Do it.

I've never heard one song by this band. I'd be very interested in a 13-15 song comp. Thanks

Don't know if y'all saw this since you're still asking for comps, or maybe it is just a shitty one. But it has 2-3 songs off all their albums. Anyway, it should give you a decent overview of what they're about for those interested.

Fantastic, thanks. I was not aware of this. Much appreciated.

Looks like I don't have the "Whip It On" album or the Christmas EP. Nobody, what is that "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" on?

I do have both of those EP's that came out around Lust Lust Lust.

I'm putting together my own set but I'm having trouble whittling it down. I've got 30 songs right now.

Man, is "Last Dance" the most upbeat song about an overdose ever?

Also, "Pretty In Black" is much better than I remembered it being but something about the production just didn't work after the fuzzed out "Chain Gang of Love'. Still, there is some great Everly Brothers homages on there.

Yeah, I never got the disdain for "Pretty In Black." It's a bit more of a genre record than their others (you can say the same about the new one, 'cept it's a gothy exploration instead) but there's a bunch of solid songs there.

Yeah, I just stuck to the five full lengths so nothing off the Christmas EP or Whip It On.

I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry is a cover off the extended UK version of Pretty in Black, an album I like a lot too. It is just a different animal than most of their others with a really clean distortion-free sound. But, I do like it quite a lot, possibly more for it being a bit of an oddity.

I do enjoy the new one, but it is a bit of a departure as well. (Actually what I like about these guys in many ways is how they can depart from their signature sound while still sounding completely like themselves.) Anyway, the new one if more meandering and moody, less percussive and poppy. A bit shoe-gazy. OK, actually a lot shoe-gazy. Songs are longer and mroe drawn out. Tons of distortion and fuzz all over it. I like it, but if you like them for the more catchy elements of much of their stuff, I can see how it wouldn't hit the spot so much.

Nobody,
Thanks for the DL. Is that the proper sequence above?
I randomly played Aly, Walk With Me this a.m. on the train ride and and dug it.

Derris-
So, is Pretty in Black the record with the Everly's vibe?

Anything without Ode To LA or BANG! will be summarily dismissed.

I just grabbed all the songs and tossed 'em in a folder actually. Gathered up for a friend not as musically obsessed as around here so I wasn't so careful. That order is the order they were in when I opened up the folder. If you care, I believe it is track order since the tracks are numbered in order and then alphabetical. Like all the first songs off an album are together and from there alphabetically. So yeah, Aly comes first since it is a track 01 and starts with A, if that makes sense. But, there is no intent to the order.

And yes, Pretty in Black is the Everly Brothers sounding one. (sorry to answer for Derris.)

Yes. But, like nobody said they manage to always sound like themselves in whatever they do. On Pretty in Black, from the get go, it opens with "The Heavens" which has a crackling vinyl sound in the background as a gentle acoustic guitar plays and he sings with that echo-y reverb. It's clear they're mixing things up a bit.

Still, everything they do has an undercurrent of 50's rock n roll to it but I challenge anyone to listen to "Here Comes Mary" off that record and not hear some Everlys.

Really enjoyed the show. It's a small room and I'm not sure there were even a hundred people there. 'My Time's Up' from the new album sounded great live.

i dig this band a lot too. new one is good.

have y'all heard sune rose wagner's solo album from a few years back? he sings entirely in danish -- if that doesn't put you off then it's definitely worth tracking down.

Kind of an unexpected consensus around this band, but I dig it.

Carry on.
