also lame.

Because you can't play it.

Excellent. I'm now looking forward to Mayor of Simpleton schooling us on how we're too indie to appreciate the true artistry of the chapman stick, and how we can't recognize a real chapman stick virtuoso in much the same way as we can't recognize Neil Peart's wizardry on the gong.

Nope, you guys aren't even worth the trouble.

I'm not arguing with you. I know I'm not worth the trouble, but the height of coolness with the stick is elephant talk off of discipline. Even then, it's really not that cool.

most of it comes off as cool as this...

somewhat impressive snoozefest.

Definitely not cool enough to end up at #56 on Pitchfork's best of the 80s list.

You just described 99% of all amateur musicians.

Elephant Talk is pretty lame. King Crimson is pretty lame, and I'd have to count myself as a mild King Crimson fan.

It's o.k. to like lame music, but your like for it doesn't make it cooler.

I like Jackson Browne. Lame. Even for 70's pussy folk/rock, he's pretty lame. The list goes on and on.

A bunch of people here like the stones, even the newer stuff. Whatever.

that danny kid likes trout mask replica. lame AND pretentious.

Shit, I toured with Liquid Soul, one of the LAMEST BANDS IN AMERICAN HISTORY for years, and I played lame bass nerd shit for four hour sets.

who even gives a fuck? I ain't ashamed. But i'm not a liar either. And I love Tony Levin's bass playing, especially with Peter Gabriel, but put a chapman stick in his hands, and he INSTANTLY loses cool points.

The only people who hate Trout Mask Replica are the people who only heard it once or twice. Or the stupid fucks around this board who listen to the most generic indie shit that is a ripoff of a ripoff of a ripoff etc. etc. etc. Once you've listened to it about ten times, it hardly even sounds obtuse anymore; there ARE melodies and hooks all over the record, it just takes a little "adjusting" to discover them. I can think of tons of shit that you guys listen to that is way more pretentious, and on top of that it all sucks, too. Trout Mask Replica is just really fucked up blues music and a lot of the music you all listen to probably wouldn't even exist without it. Plus, the songs are just awesome once you DO start hearing the hooks.

This is a case of the emperor's new clothes. You just need to come out and say it out loud, "I like some really lame music, but I really like it.", and then you should probably jerk off into a kleenex, or call up your ex for a booty call that won't happen. Or do both simultaneously.

There's nothing wrong with liking what you like, but it's like religion or politics. You're not going to convert me on beefheart.

And the correct answer is that without J.S. Bach, alot of the music you listen to wouldn't exist. I mean, we all make some sweeping generalizations here, but you come at it with scientologist like fervor.

Lamest, don't know -- but most inessential instrument is the electric sitar.

Disagreed.

I mean, at least it's a real instrument; that Beamz thing is basically 6 preset buttons. I like the kid in the video who's just trying to flick it as fast as he can -- that'd be me after about 30 seconds and getting bored, and then I'd wander off in search of alcohol.

Cliche'. Is that the only Stick playing you know? C'mon, you're better than that. Any instrument is only cool or not cool because of the person playing it.

Trumpet -- Miles Davis -- cool; the guy who wakes you up in the morning playing revelee (or whatever it's called -- the wake-up song) -- not cool

So...since Beamz isn't a real instrument, tie between accordian and bagpipes?

I don't know... the stick attracts lame-o nerds. So tell me, what's the height of cool stick playing if it isn't elephant talk? Is it that Emmet Chapman tune that they pretended Patrick Stewart was playing in Dune, or is it the hippie playing with Dave Matthews Band on Before These Crowded Streets, or John Myung from Dream Theater?
