That's 'cause we generally have jobs, and don't get to sound off till we get home.

Edit: You can read my shit over on the CMJ board, which I can access from my aforementioned JOB.

Goddamn it!!!! Thankfully I was a lot more careful in casting my real ballot - I accidentally said I voted for Bush here which there was no way in hell that I did - anyway that I can fix it??

It's not always absolute, but it is where I tend to start with seemingly very similar candidates. And before anyone harps on "tax cuts for millionaires" and the like, think of it as I told the Speaker of the House of Delegates in our state legislature.

When someone I was standing with made a remark about his plan to raise taxes yet again, he looked at the two of us and said, "It's not on everyone, just people making over $200,000 a year. You aren't making that much, so you're fine".

He was not pleased when I responded, "Maybe not yet, but I would like to earn that one day without fear of it being taken away through taxes."

even with my (future) PhD, my interests and passions will never net me that much [ca. $200K] money. probably not more than a quarter of that.

i will happily tax the wealthy, and then tax them again, and then add a little bit more on top. a human's worth is not equal to a human's wealth, and the republic needs to be able to serve its citizenry.

this is a drunken post, but not one that i am likely to retract.

the myth of limitless growth & prosperity will do more than kill this country, it is a cancer that must be cut from our minds.

Worth does not equal wealth, nor does to serve mean to support outright. Perhaps if you feel there needs to be more tax, you could first lead and throw a bit more on top come April 15.

We do not serve our citizenry by showing them our government teats so that they may take their share and shuffle back off to the slums. Perhaps showing some of those in the lower classes the means of growth and prosperity would not only feed them finer meals but also enrich their lives without hobbling along aided by a tax-funded crutch.

More simply, some old adage about the merits of teaching a man to fish versus giving him a fish comes to mind.

can't teach - mcdonald's will have replaced the photo of a fishing pole in the textbook with one of ronald holding a McFishwich.

can't help but toss more of the unwashed onto sam's withering teat because they have no means of self-betterment.

can't have class-jumping ab nihilo. only class-splitting in medias res.

drunkerer.
