audiobooks? do you not have time to read, yourself?
not really, no. it's pretty sad but honestly after I get home from work, cook/chores and watch a sporting event it's time for bed. I remember how to read though, so if I'm on vacation I can swing it.

I can't stand to listen to other people read to me. it's usually too slow, and i don't like the accents they have for certain characters..

what makes you listen to these rather than reading yourself?
Sometimes the reading becomes as entertaining a performance as anything else. The Sarah Vowell, for example, she reads with her own distinctive voice, which I like, and then she gets people that I like (jon stewart, john hodgeman, john oliver, john slattery, peter dinklage, campbell scott) to read the parts for John Winthrop or Charles Guiteau or something, so there's an entertainment value there. But the real answer is that I run a lot and for anything longer than 3 miles I don't really want to get pumped, I want to space on something and kill some time, and audiobooks are great for that. plus i like the stories.

i get it then

and my comma in that sentence was unnecessary

I've never picked up that Evans book just because the guy just reeaally bothers me.

But the Odenkirk/Oswalt stories still having me sort of desiring to hear this. Now I guess I can check it out. Thanks!

but if there isn't a story about a coked-up Brian Dennehy headbutting someone in the solar plexus, I'll probably be disappointed.

This was pretty entertaining. Contributing writers included Patton Oswalt, Will Forte, David Wain, and Andy Richter, and a bunch of other people...

I finally did last night, months after downloading it. He is one dour and moody mofo. Dude seems pretty dead on the inside. Major daddy issues, and definitely prefers being alone to the company of others.

Struck me as very, very odd that he only mentioned Bernadette Peters once the entire book, while devoting extended passages to random girlfriends and road beef from his early years. Also, almost nothing about Victoria Tennant.

It was definitely worth listening to, but I don't think I'll ever look at the "wild and crazy guy" the same way again.

I certainly didn't coin it - I'm pretty sure it's common vernacular for groupies these days.
