why don't you just produce more weapons, tanks? the god thing is, nobody cares about how much gas they need. that's an easy task for your car industry.

So what kind of Great works projects do you think this nation needs now? I can't see us building another Hoover dam or interstate system.

Maybe a railroad system on par with Europe?

Didn't some report come out after Teh Bridge Collapse in Minnesota saying that like 50% of american roadway bridges were due for an overhaul?

the local area here has actually started doing a lot of bridge repair over the past year or so. Lots of one lane bridges these days 'round here.

= Part of why I didn't really dig LA the one time I visited. No mass transit, and if you ride a bike on the road people honk at you and swerve towards you. Also everything is pretty far away from everything else. It's like they really, really really want you to drive a car.

They just did a bunch of work on the bridge connecting Kendall Sq / MIT and Charles / MGH (Red Line), 1 down, 3 to go.

You won't see a cop walkin' on the beat

You only see 'em drivin' cars out on the street

You won't see a kid walkin' home from school

Their mothers pick 'em up in a car pool

plus there's the overpass on storrow that they want to divert traffic into back bay (or create a temp road over the esplanade) to allow for repair of. and the silver line connector tunnel under chinatown and proposed extensions of the T (green line, specifically, has been promised)

boston aside, i'd much rather see spending on infrastructure improvement to this country that creates productive jobs and encourages growth rather than spending to allow folks get in more debt more to buy more crap they don't need.

Yep. Creating better transportation in cities makes it easier to get to work without a car, which winds up being much cheaper (witness my $59 monthly subway pass, vs. car payments, gas, insurance, etc). Thus, it takes a cost out of the system for everyone who can take advantage of it. It effectively reduces the cost of producing whatever it is those people do at their jobs, which puts money back in their (and thus our) pockets, to say nothing the health benefits and I'll get off my soapbox now.

Well sure, if you wanna base everything on a Missing Persons song.

Don't know how many people will pick up just on that lyric FT.

When I worked construction, the place to take a nap argument would have been very persuasive.
