A.C. Newman Get Guilty
There's something about him that turns people off on first listen. Perhaps it's the fact that his songs rarely have a hook or a chorus and aren't as accessible as they should be.

Are you sure you're listening to the right AC Newman? I would never in a million years think this. FWIW, I haven't heard the new one.

Something about this thread annoys me. I certainly don't begrudge anyone keeping up with their new releases but something about it feels like College Football Pre-season rankings.

Perhaps I should've said it turns me off on first listen.

Dent May The Good Feeling Music Of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele
I think you'd like this if you're a fan of Jens Lekman, although Dent May's lyrics are not quite as witty as Lekman's, and overall, the music just comes off as a cheap imitation.

Cut Off Your Hands You And I
Another standard Britpop album, although, I think these guys are from Australia. Someone told me they sounded like The Clean. Not even close.

Nickel Eye The Time Of The Assassins
I think this is Nikolai from the Strokes. Something about this doesn't work for me. Perhaps it's the poor vocals.

I'm giddy about the new Robyn Hitchcock. I haven't found it anywhere yet. I guess I haven't been looking in the right places.

01. Andrew Bird Noble Beast
I've been a big fan of his, and I must say, this to me, might be his best album to date. He is one of two singer/songwriters that continues to put out one amazing album after another. The other being, Jolie Holland.

02. Antony & The Johnsons The Crying Light
I found this album dull at first, but after repeated listens, its beauty truly revealed itself. Stunningly beautiful album. "Daylight And The Sun" is a best song of the year candidate.

i will agree to the letter on both of these OPA.

Antony's new album just gets better and better with each listen. so many subtle bits in the songs that are just gorgeous.

Hell yeah. As always, I gotta uncheck a song or three from itunes, but the result is a mainline of 8 songs worth of unique poppy goodness.

It's pretty brutal. For a quick second I thought that the individual strokes might betray their abilities by being in a group. Then I heard this.

I'm surprised how much I like this. I've probably played it once a day. But I prefer the tracks Kiss My Name and Aeon.

02. Telefon Tel Aviv Immolate Yourself
I’m not sure this is purely an electronic album. It’s an album that takes a few good listens to really be appreciated due to its layers and layers of dense and sonic elements, but yeah, I'm loving this right now.

man i fucking LOVE this album. what a voice. after listening to this thing twice through (which i never do) i went out and immediately found her previous album and that headless heroes covers album from last year. haven't listened to the hh yet, but she is definitely my favorite discovery of '09 so far -- if i had to rank right now it would be #1.

man, i cannot get into this TTA album. it sounds like they're trying to be junior boys

i thought they had really captured something with fahrenheit...some sort of ultra-late night, lonesome vibe that's totally lacking here

thanks for the link anyway, though

I'd only heard a couple tracks from The Pirate's Gospel prior to this but I'm with you in thinking she's great. She's apparently friends with Joanna Newsom and is from the same area which cements her in my book but she's much more accessible.
