Thought it kind of sucked. I was expecting vocals for some reason and it's kind of unspectacular without them.

Okay, my thoughts on this:

1. Its ok background music

2. It sounds very 80's to me for some reason (like Neil Young "This Notes For You" or the beer commercial version of EC doing "After Midnite")

3. It reminds me more of Widespread Panic than DBT. Like, I keep expecting JB to start singing.

I actually had a much more emotional reaction to the music, particularly the latter part of the album. Really, really appealed to me. I was more surprised at how Neil just blended in and was really expected his playing to standout more but this really felt like more of a band effort.

Oh I enjoyed it. Did my review come off as negative?

Not negative, just a touch ambivalent ("it's ok background music").

Yeah, from your review I would have thought you didn't really like it.

I think it's pretty stellar. Much more intriguing than I expected.

I have to go out of town on business but I'm giving Derris my tickets.

BTW, did you mail them today? I know we briefly talked about that. Not so sure that's the best idea. Who knows if it'll make it in time? I've mailed things across town and it's taken 4 days before.

We can work something else out I think.

Also, I was listening to this today and I agree with your assesment on the 80's sound. On the cover of "Hey Ya" I kept expecting Steve Winwood or Bruce Hornsby to start crooning over the track at any moment.

The guitar solo's on "Native New Yorker" sounds like something straight out of a Eric Clapton video from '88.

That being said, I'm liking it.

Actually, I realized this morning that the tickets are at will call under my name but I called the ticket people and had it switched to your name. Check your email later for a confirmation of this.

I was expecting to hate this as big name guests are usually a recipe for disaster in my opinion, and because I've not been able to get into Drive By Truckers and never have gotten into Neil Young. But, I have been pleasantly surprised. Will be good instrumental tracks for driving around or cooking up some food and drinking beer.

Enjoyable record. I'm sure this'll get a lot of play this Spring/Summer.

I didn't care for this much on first listen.
