I really liked "Lost Souls" when it came out. I never listened to "Last Broadcast" for some reason. I remember trying with "Some Cities" but after about 3-4 spins it never really resonated. Actually, that record is prime for me giving it another shot. I'll check out the new one.......but my expectations are low. I'm pretty much in this camp. I liked a couple songs off Last Broadcast, but had no staying power. |

On all three of these bands' debuts, there was a mood to them that none of the three have been able to duplicate since. When i think of listening to "Sea Song" and "Rise" they really took the listener on a journey. The same can be said for the band, South, who had an amazing debut, and now are decent, and likeable, but sound less creative/absorbing. I will always want to see Doves live, and will love it, but IMO they have yet to replicate, or more correctly worded, capture the feel and emotion of Lost Souls. I really dont want to hear country tinged Doves. I want sea-spray, open-moody take-your-head on a journey music. /rant I tend to agree with this sort of; The Cedar Room and Sea Song are the best songs that Doves have done and probably will ever do, but I think Lost Souls tails off quite a bit after that, to the point where Last Broadcast is the stronger album over all. Having said that, I lost interest after Last Broadcast , maybe because I was hoping/expecting for another Cedar Room and it wasn't delivered. Didn't get Cities and probably won't go out of my way to get the new one, though I think the song that was linked starts off weakly but gets better as it progresses. |

I've really enjoyed the first 5 tracks but haven't gone past that jusy yet. I don't feel bad for liking them (Doves that is). |

We'll see... there are already some tracks I really like (this happens, and then 2 weeks later, I hate the same tracks). So far, really digging "Winter Hill" and "The Outsiders." Only about halfway through so far... edit: "Birds Flew Backwards" is nice, and "Compulsion" is good, but I felt like it was kinda meandering. Need to listen to it a few more times... |

On my second listen. Kingdom of Rust is a really good song. Very solid album, definitely a grower. |
