oh yeah. after work it's usually something fairly heavy, or ridiculous, like Stern.

10-20 minutes, depending on traffic.

Music both directions. Mornings depend on how awake I am if I'm up for anything rowdy or not. After work, it's usually something a bit to the loud side as I'm just happy to be heading out.

Currently its 4 miles to, then about 8ish miles home picking up my daughter from day care. On the way to work I listen to Bob and Brian on WHOG for the Steve Czaban sports report... damn funny sometimes.

http:www.czabe.com

He says the stuff we all think while watching sports... very funny.

Total time is 15 mins morning, about 20 minutes home.

3.5 miles, & it's the only time I listen to the radio. Usually sports talk or classical on the way, & jazz on the way home. Takes 10-ish minutes to get there, depending on traffic.

4.5 miles - head through downtown Boise on my way to the airport.

Usually listen to mixes in the car or NPR.

I've found that my commute is actually a lot better taking the city streets...the highways around here are usually too clogged to make them worthwhile...add in the fact that more and more of them are becoming toll roads, and it's just not worth it

same here - all side streets all the time

it's only 16 miles to my office from the house, but i drop my mom off at her job first, which is five miles further

the morning commute usually takes about an hour all total, evening closer to 1:15-1:30 in length

lots of local sports talk radio

i just moved to a different campus so I am not exactly sure of the distance, maybe 20 miles or so. takes about 30 minutes...mostly highway. I listen to about half music and half talk radio.

40 - 50 minutes by train depending if I get off in the city centre or the west end.

Basically an album there and an album back.

I hate the idea of a short commute. Imagine leaving the house and being at work 5 minutes later! Awful!

You need at least half an hour to make the mental adjustment from leaving the warm womb of your bed, then extracting some hope from funneling good music into your brain before entering through the foul Doors of Doom over which no bird flies and onwards into the Office of Dis, staffed by eumenides and centaurs.

just listen to music cds in the car.

once the weather cooperates, I am going to start biking to work.

ditto on all of this.

i keep telling myself this about the bike thing every year, but it never seems to happen. mainly because 90% of my drive is on sketchy, windy roads with no shoulder at all. yeah, that's why.

12 miles on city streets and a 3 mile stretch of I-35 downtown. Usually 20-25 mins.

I try to knock out a couple phone calls if at all possible. CDs if there's something I need to review. Sports talk if I want my mind on cruise control.

7 miles one way- 20 minutes by car, 30-40 minutes by bike. Depends on how hard the wind is blowing.

I listen to CDs in the car.

Only have one cup of joe when I wake up. No more during the day, usually, unless it was a late night.

I tried the bus once, and that was a nightmare. I had a driver that could have been in a horror flick.

Anyone going to average these responses out? Could be interesting.

can't we get some fight going about this like we did with the last super mundane topic about where people sit in restaurants?

I make the adjustment by getting up about two hours before I need to and drinking a bunch of coffee. Work for me is either going to be dreadfully boring or really suck, so the sooner I finish the day and get home the better. It is a joy to be home roughly five minutes after clocking out. I also live less than a mile from a downtown area that is in the top ten of bars per capita in america, so happy hour is extremely close.

I think it's about 23 miles each way? Maybe 21.

In winter (or if I just feel like it) I go the wrong direction via bus and subway for 3 miles to company HQ and then take a free shuttle that leaves from there out to my buildings, and the reverse going home. That method means about 1:45 each direction, door to door.

The rest of the year I tend to take the motorcycle on side roads instead of the freeway, because the tolls are fucking expensive. If I take the interstate it's about 35 minutes door to door. Side roads mean more like 45 or 50 minutes each way.

Either way I use a shuffle to listen to podcasts in the a.m. and music in the p.m., generally.

26 miles each way, which feels kind of long for me. If there's no traffic, going into town takes me 35-45 minutes.

I listen to burned mix or store bought cd's along the way.

This thread is proof to me that the traditionally low ratings for sports talk radio are grossly underrated.

Until recently my commute only involved making it from my bed to the kitchen and then to my office unless I had somewhere specific to go. like for a meeting or to look at some crappy land. But lately I'm working a new gig so I'm back in the rat race of the ATL commute.

+/- 50 mins. on Hwy. 74, Interstates 85,285&75 and then a couple other roads. I listen to a mix of ipod, local sports talk, XM music (mainly Underground Garage and X Country), Opie and Anthony, Mad Dog Unleashed or make calls.

Today I listened to the stream of kexp using the public radio app on my iphone. worked perfectly, never cut out at all.

I'm not minding it much so far and hopefully I won't have to do it more than once or twice a week when things settle down.
