Oh yeah.

"Billy Don't Be a Hero" is definitely the worst song EVER.

And "The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia" ain't too far behind.

#1: 'Smooth' by Santana and Rob Thomas. Seriously, this song is on the lite-rock station at work every day and it's the closest a song comes to making me want to put the letter opener through my temple.

I agree with most of the choices in this thread, but this one still tops them all. Very strong candidate fo Worst Song Ever. "Fly Away" is very, very close, though. Good choices.

"We Built This City" is a silly, stupid song, but I don't see how people could hate it. At least it's bad enough to be entertaining.

I'll submit "Inside Out" by Eve 6, although I'm sure there are tons of songs by similar groups from the past several years that are just as bad. I just remember that single being everywhere when I graduated high school, and it was very, very annoying. The lyrics in the chorus are some of the worst shit ever.

#1 by a country mile....

Crocodile Rock - Elton John

and #2...

Bridge over Troubled Water
- Simon and Garfunkel

Waaaaayyyy too melodramatic and Garfunkel's high pitched wail has me pondering suidide instead of listening to the song each and every time.

Dude, I wish I lived in the wonderful fantasy world where "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is the #2 worst song of all time.

HOLD THE FUCK ON

Are you people forgetting that there was once a band called CREED? and that they sand a song called "With Arms Wide Open"?!?!

Oh, and lay off Buffett. You pussies couldn't even make it through the parking lot at a Buffett show. His songs are known as cheese because they are what middle-aged-middle-American-white-people think is the soundtrack to whooping it up, but he ain't toxic or anything.

<====First concert, Jimmy Buffett[/b]

Shouldn't there be a special category for bands whose entire output is patently offensive to the senses?

I hate that early 90s techno/rave song that has that "Y'all ready for this?" tagline. I figured 13 years ago I would not still be hearing it today. I'm sure it has appeared on plenty jock jams compilations.

But the worst song ever is easily "Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus. Creed seem like Bob Dylan compared to that bullshit.

Agreed, the man is a god here, and lots-wait-millions of (often toxic~read:redneck) people love him, and to be honest, his books are a fair read on a beachday. So maybe there's something to this:

What bands have the most annoying fans?

Bright Eyes.

Doesn't mean I wouldn't do the dirty-dirty with the females in the audience, those fifteen years old and up.... Hey, if she's born within ten years of my birth year, it's fair game. 1971-89, cats -- they could be, should be mine.

Yah, yah.

Nickelback fans are some of the most vile, steak-headed creatures you will ever encounter.

Barenaked Ladies fans are terrible too, but at least they're friendly.

I infiltrated the matchbox twenty fan base for a while, but was never fully accepted.

Male matchbox twenty fans kinda freak me out.

That's a contender for one of my favorite songs of all time.

Gerry Rafferty rules the planet. With Humblebums, Stealers Wheel and solo.

Naah, I leave that to mongers like Busty Rhodes.

I'm with you guys; love that song. As a side note, that's the only album of theirs that I've ever liked. My friends used to listen to them all the time and for years tried in vain to get me into them.

np: camera obscura - san francisco song
