Bearded Collie, man. Your wish come true.

I forgive you, because you've earned a lot of credit with me over the years, but this is hands-down the dumbest thing you've ever said. Whatsay I tell you all about what it's like to smoke weed, and you can tell me about pit bulls.

Single men should not own cats or dogs under 15 pounds.

Cats are the most boring, useless animal. They always seem to look at you with a sense of superiority.

I love dogs, but real dogs, not those little rat dogs you guys are talking about. Other than that, avid dog lover.

Because there's a specific "way" a "man" should "be" and everything?

Really, now.

I hate little rat dogs because they're often high-strung, frenetic and stupid, not because I "should be" anything.

I think overall some breeds require a heavier hand and one needs to consider the added responsibility with training. I'm not just talking about pitbulls which have taken the lion's share of the blame for attacks.

A quick search pulled up some stats from the LA SPCA:

Quote:
Pit bull and pit mixes account for 21 percent of all human fatalities, while mixed breed dogs account for 16 percent and other nonspecified breeds, 15 percent. Delise's study demonstrates that the breed of dog should not be the sole factor by which an attack is judged. Other factors include inherited and learned behaviors, genetics, breeding, temperament, surgical sterilization, environmental stresses, owner responsibility, victim behavior, size and age, timing, and the physical condition and the size of dog.

So 21% pit bull vs. 31% "Other". The next part to me really hammers it home.

Quote:
Of the 28 dogs responsible for a fatal attack between 2000 and 2001, 26 were males and two were females. Of the 26 males, 21 were sexually intact; the reproductive status of the remaining five male dogs could not be determined.

That's highly significant and explains nearly all the variance in your dog attacks. So, blame the owner, not the pit bull or "Other" dog, for not properly training and neutering.

yep. Lotta shithead young macho guys out there with pits who only have them to look and be tough, but I don't blame the dogs for that. I'm sure I've already shown enough pics of mine nursing baby kittens and whatnot.

Boy am I glad our male dog is nutless.

He damn near kills us with love, i'd hate to see him more energetic. At least, I'm assuming that's what nuts would do, because if I lost mine, i'm sure i'd be a whole lot less energetic.

Dog guy myself, but we don't have one just yet because I feel bad to keep one in our tiny abode. When we get an actual yard, or upgrade it'll be the first thing that happens.

I'm really wanting to adopt a greyhound.

On the subject of pit bulls, yeah, I'm gonna probably side with Squirgs here. In my town there are a ton of PBs running around which have some blockhead for an owner. Probably feeds 'em stale pizza and whatnot. They aren't spayed or neutered and they most definitely are probably kenneled up all day and ignored. I don't think any dog is inherently evil, but I think you need to realize that if someone rubs any dog the wrong way, its gonna react.

Speaking of reactions, it was only a few years ago that Maryland was going to try to ban them as a breed and systematically weed them out of the state.

Like Denver did. Surrender your pit bull / give it away, or else it will be taken and put down.

The problem is real, and they're trying to do something about it... I understand that. But with these fuckwits, if you take pits away from them, they'll just find another big strong breed (rotties, dobermans, whatever) and start pimping those around town. Meanwhile humble, sweet, kid-friendly dogs like mine get lumped in with abused aggressive dogs, because she's a pit. I've known 3 pits really well, and all 3 were the same, because they were raised by responsible people. Pits just wanna make you happy. If being aggressive with other dogs is what you tell them makes you happy, then that's what they do.
