Wu-Tang...i liked it so much that i actually bought the clean version of the album eventually because I owned every wu-tang related project and wanted to make sure i had that as well.

The answer is Wu you fucking idiots.

Though Sound and Vision is a pretty good song, most of that album is pretty average. People only really like it because other people tell them it's "important". When you follow that chain around you'll find it's a circle and that no one really thinks that record is that great.

The first side of Low is good but who can even listen to Side 2? And furthermore, why would you even want to? I'd be willing to bet that David Bowie has never even heard it. Never.

I'm actually even more surprised how passionate people are about Wu Tang. I mean, its pretty good and all (and I voted for it) but man, stop sobbing uncontrolably.

I actually prefer side two:

"Warszawa" (Bowie, Brian Eno) – 6:23
"Art Decade" – 3:46
"Weeping Wall" – 3:28
"Subterraneans" – 5:39

at the time, it really began to expand and change how I heard music ... i.e. listening for textures as compositional pieces, rather than rhythm or melody. I like Wu just fine and appreciate how influential they are/were, but Phillip Glass wrote a symphony based on Low, so he heard something worthwhile there.

Hey, shut up.

I actually agree with that knob for once, so let me enjoy the rare beauty of the moment.

OK, I'm good.

Later when i realized how dumb this was (and that there were 2,000 Wu related albums out in the world) I quickly decided to sell a large portion of those wu albums (Killer Bees anyone?). The record store I sold it back to didn't seem to realize it was the clean version....they were shocked i was selling it (along with the Burt Bacharach greatest hits I sold as well - little did they no it was an instrumental album (which was not mentioned anywhere on the packaging - which was how i came to own it).

I'm not a big fan of Low. Its one of my least favorite Bowie albums. I tried to educate myself on rap about five years ago and went and bought about 20 rap albums recommended on Obner including Wu Tang. Most of them I could appreciate as a piece of art even if I didn't really like them. A few of them I liked. Wu Tang was one of my least favorite. It wasn't terrible but I really don't understand why it has such passionate backers.

I voted for low but I'll probably gladly vote against that in the next round.

pitchfork called Low the best album of the 70s, and you can use that for either side of the argument.

Or even better, disregard that completely.

I remember being 16 and having just gotten the edited version Enter the 36 Chambers (by mistake, through BMG), driving around with it blasting and being blown away by how awesome "Shame on a Nigga" was yet having my enjoyment stifled consiberably by how it was edited to be "Shame on a Nuh" (or something like that). I hit up the mall within about a week or so to get the "right" version.

Now, several disappointing follow-ups and some OK but progressively less rewarding solo albums later, I've lost the love, I guess. The last time I listened to this album, I enjoyed it, but not as much I hoped I still would.

The first half of Low is unbeatable. Aside from "Queen Bitch" and "Suffragette City", it pretty much contains all my favorite Bowie songs. I like a lot of Eno's music, and side 2 is nice, if a little new age-y and soporific. It's a "higher highs" thing for me, I guess. It's my favorite Bowie album.
