superchunk, along with archers of loaf and pavement, were one of the bands that really got me into indie rock in the early 90's. i saw them live every time they came to DC. i love all of their early albums and compilations, but admit that i have pretty much not given any of their newer stuff a chance (post-here's where the strings come in).
i'd have to go with on the mouth as my favorite album, and seed toss as favorite song.

Wanna hear a superchunk story? Too bad, I'm telling it anyways.

I went to the Merge office once, got to meet everyone except Mac (he was on vacation). I asked Laura what was new with Superchunk and she said they had just accepted the opening slot on the Get Up Kids tour. She said she had never heard them either. I didn't have the heart to tell her that basically the GUK were just bad superchunk ripoffs.

Perhaps I should have.

I have a feeling that Superchunk won't tour/record again, but I'd love to be proven wrong. Mac and Laura both have kids now, right? There hasn't been much activity since Here's to Shutting Up came out.

They toured with GUK the summer of 2002.

I'm not entirely convinced we've heard the last from them. Mac and Laura each have a kid and Jim has a puppy. They contributed a song to a Kill Rock Stars Comp last year and there was a new song on the Merge 15th Anniversary comp. There are also two new songs that have yet to surface, but were played out live when they toured in the fall of 2003. I remember, not too long ago, there being rumors of them putting out seven inch featuring these songs. They also played a Tsunami benefit show last month in NC. I think there will be shows, but probably not extensive touring like they did in the past.

When I last saw them a couple of years ago, I just stood in awe of Laura as she jumped up and down with her khaki shorts and bass guitar. She's cool.

it's pretty cool that a boney 5'5" waif singing, "it was a robbins egg and it was blue" can sound so badass.

except for the fact they left the fucking title track off of the album

I remember buying the mower ep and thinking "this song will be on the record for sure, because that's the album's title!"

They had a good tradition of not putting the title track(s) on the album(s)...

I find it adorable...

No doubt. I didn't initially see the date and was baffled how seemingly overnight Yail created a thread on Superchunk and then somehow it had reached 2 pages.

Was it on here or somewhere else that it was said that yelling "Slack Motherfucker" was the indie equivalent of yelling "Freebird"?
