"Chillout Tent"...enough said.

They gave us oranges and cigarettes. Not their best but I like that tune. Dave Pirner as the scumbag who makes out with the girl? Nice touch IMO.

Plus, I love these lyrics:

She looked just like a baby bird, all new and wet and trying to light a Parliament
He quoted her some poetry, he's Tennyson in denim and sheepskin
He looked a lot like Izzy Stradlin
They started kissing when the nurses took off their IVs
It was kinda sexy, but it was kinda creepy
Their mouths were fizzy with the cherry cola
They had the privacy of bedsheets
And all the other kids were mostly in comas

I like the line "he'd been to jail but never prison"

That somehow, however improbable, he manages get the name 'Izzy Stradlin' in that song makes 'Chillout Tent' better than Interpol's entire catalogue.

You losers probably hate Thin Lizzy too.

"Chillout Tent" isn't so terrible to me if only because I would have gone to the Chillout Tent if I could have found it at the first Lollapallooza: Too much acid + Georgia in July + Butthole Surfers = Bad times.

It has been my experience that there is no such thing as too much acid where the Butthole Surfers are involved.

I would have voted for Separation Sunday over Bright Lights, but Boys & Girls didn't hit me nearly as hard. I still think Bright Lights is uneven though with a couple really strong songs and a lot of mediocrity. But, I feel the desire to hear 2-3 songs off that far more than anything off Boys & Girls, so it gets my vote.

Interpol isn't PPDD, as it is accepted by some of the "Reg Rockers". Your files need to be updated.

There is not nunance in the GARchipelago, only the O3CR/Ting Ting La La dichotomy. So, if Hold Steady is the former, then Interpol must be the latter, at such place & time as the two bands confront each other.

You're missing a 'G' in O3CR, which translates out to Obscure 3-chord Garage Rock (which is more of a Radcliffe thing).

Really, I can't imagine anyone in either band could throw a decent punch.

Strangely, I think people's opinions on these bands are more about music than photos.

For me, The Hold Steady is classic rock without the melody or hooks, or punk without any edge or energy. That isn't helped by the alternately "look how clever I am" or "look how rock 'n roll I am" lyrics and annoying vocals.

Interpol is a solid rhythm section and not much else.

Between these two, I'll take the rhythm section, but not over hundreds of other things from the past 10 years.

Well put.

See, both bands are posers. One is posing as dapper, intellectual NY dandies, the other as wordy, fast-living drunks. Under it all though, they are all pathetic nerds.

By applying this logic, Elvis was nothing more than a white man posing as a black man. Here's a secret - The Stones weren't street fighting men either.

I like Chill out tent a lot. There, I said it. And this album is easily top 5 of the decade. And some days it's the best album of the decade. No album captured my coming of age better than this album. Those lyrics I immediately relate to, and I don't think it's really about "fast-living drunks" at all. Those characters in those songs were real people in my life.
