Guess they figured they'd better drop the hammer before the NCAA did.

Yeah, I too wonder if they sacrificed basketball to save the Football team and appease the Pac-10 and NCAA officials. The OJ Mayo seems to be rather similar to the Reggie Bush, Joe McKnight, etc scandals that have reared their ugly head during various football seasons this decade.

They should put these sorts of things in a felonious category called "Scholarship Fraud," so the athlete would still be subject to prosecution after he's long gone from school and living the high life in the pros. I'll bet that would be at least somewhat of a deterrent.

Couldn't agree more Bob.

I mean, USC is seriously fucked for years to come now.

The reason I brought up the Harrick deal is because I'm a UGA fan and have watched first hand how this affects a program. The allegations were very similar except I think Jim Harrick Jr. was accused of giving higher grades than were earned to a couple players. It mostly revolved around the giving of cash to a BENCH player.

So because of this coach and this one player, the entire team missed the NCAA tourney and the program has been banished to the wilderness ever since. We were a THREE seed going into that tourney and I don't think we've had an above .500 season since.

Meanwhile, the main offenders are working outside of basketball somewhere and one is on jail. Yet, we still are trying to dig our way back. Infuriates the hell out of me that the kids that played by the rules get fucked the most.

I'm no USC fan but I still feel for their players right about now. UGA "self imposed" the same sanctions that USC did to themselves but the NCAA STILL put us on 4 years probation.

I'd expect them to do the same again. Especially since it stems from such a high profile college athlete.

#15 Tennessee upended the #1 Kansas Jayhawks today 76-68. I guess that SEC domination carried over to College Basketball this week.

good win for the terps last night. hopefully they can string a few more quality wins this season so they can get in the tourney and get bounced in the first round.

WVU loses to 'Cuse by 1 point.

We should've won this.

I only watched the first half of Saturday's game which was relatively close. But you guys whupped up on State in the second. I'm hoping they are able to extend UNC's losing streak to 4 tonight.

It was probably the most complete game i've seen maryland play so far. jordan williams, our freshman center is really coming along, which is something we've needed for a long time. and in the battle of latino's, vasquez just plain outplayed gonzalez in the second half.

Nice Job by the Cocks to take out Calipari and Kentucky. It was great to see that smug look wiped from his face at the end of the game.

They be down right now. But, hey--a win is a win for the Terps, right? That's with not even a full-house due to the snow. I'm glad to see Gary is finally talking to these kids and getting them motivated. Crazy to see UNC go from best to worst pretty quickly.

The Bearcats have made themselves some concrete shoes. They are sinking faster than a mobster in the Hudson. Next year looks a lot more promising.

I mean, they did lose 4 of their starting 5 to the NBA.

Don't quote me on this but I believe that 2 starters have been out for a large chunk of the season and their 7 foot starting center is out for the year I think.

So, youth, injuries, and the fact that UNC gets everyone's best shot........................you have this season.

All points true, but they do have 7 McD's AA's on their team so its not like they lack in supposed talent. Davis and Zeller have had injuries, but Thompson/Wear/Wear/Henson should be capable of taking up the slack (McD AA talent). I think their true weakness is awful guard play from Drew II/Strickland/Ginyard and lack of a true shooter on the team. Will Graves is too streaky to be considered a true shooter.

I mean, they did just fine the year after their 2005 NC and losing their top 7 scorers to graduation/NBA. They did have a precocious rookie named Tyler Hansbrough to help lead them to the NCAA tourney, though.
