I got on the Spoon bandwagon pretty late (Kill The Moonlight was my first of theirs) so maybe that's the reason but I totally agree with this statement. I keep expecting to be totally sick of Spoon by the next album but I usually end up liking it more than the last.

Plus, Britt Daniel does things with song structure and chords that very few other human beings are capable of right now.

holy shit is this dumb.

You will never win this argument Dale.

Spoon is the best band out there right now. hands down, no contest.

now you're just being silly.

I'm not even really a Spoon fan, but I definitely agree with the first statement.

Not sure about the second one, though.

With the recent announcement that Spoon will release its seventh album, 'Transference,' in January, fans have been wondering what to expect from the new material. "Every record's always a little bit of an unconscious reaction to the one before. I think it's an uglier record," frontman Britt Daniel tells Spinner, comparing it to 2007's 'Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga.' "A lot of it is either demos, or tracks that started out as demos and we just built on top of it. That earlier, rawer, more spontaneous take on what the song was just seemed like the way to go."

'Transference' was recorded in Austin, Texas, where drummer Jim Eno runs his own Public Hi-Fi studio, and at Daniel's house in Portland, Ore. But Daniel, Eno, bassist Rob Pope and keyboardist Eric Harvey also convened at Rare Book Room studio in Brooklyn, N.Y. where Daniel had previously produced the White Rabbits with Nicolas Vernhes, who's also know for his work with Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Fiery Furnaces and many others. "I liked how fast things went," Daniel says. "We don't have really a history of going fast when we're running it ourselves."

I think Jm Eno is vastly underrated, and almost as crucial to the band as Daniels.

well, he's been there since the beginning. I think he's the one who is able to translate Britt's vision.

The Mystery Zone fucking rules BTW,

Heard "Written in Reverse" on the radio last week and didn't love it, but maybe it will improve on repeat listens.

Written in Reverse was on a couple of bootlegs from last year, it wasn't my favorite of the new stuff.

they should have gone with Who Makes Your Money

I loved it. The bass pounds. Not quite the Fisk tempo, but a good one.

I think there's a copy out there, but searching has proved fruitless.

there have been some fake torrents here and there for the past couple of weeks.

yeah, let me guess, a torrent that has a "before playing..." document...oy.

this gets streamed on NPR next week, so a leak or a least a webrip is guaranteed before I actually go out and purchase a record.

Whoa - I'll be interested in how long this ones takes to sink its hooks into me. It's like they decided to strip everything back to the essentials yet again, kind of like they did with KTM except this sounds like the album that could've come after A Series Of Sneaks.

First listen = tentative thumbs up
