I've never seen anybody try to justify buying an inferior product than you, Dale. Keep fighting the good fight, mate.

I wanted to go with an Eris, but since I've only been with Verizon for about 6 months, they want the full boat to upgrade. No fucking way I'm paying that kind of $$$ for a phone unless it cleans my house and gives blow jobs on demand.

Shouldn't you be trying to figure out why you are such a disappointment?

Kinda interesting articles I've seen the last couple of days... all that said, has anyone heard any rumblings about iPhone expanding to other carriers besides AT&T?

The office Verizon sales person told us they would have the iPhone within a year.

I've heard rumors of it coming to T-Mobile soon also.

We'll see, but in my experience, new products DON'T come out on Verizon's network after product launches, because all the phone manufacturers have to retrofit their products to work on Verizon's CDMA platform. And how long has the iPhone been out now? I could be wrong, but I'm not interested in switching to Verizon really anyway. I'm reluctant to switch to AT&T (again, bad experiences) and am on T-Mobile right now. It'd be nice if I could just stay there, but I'm open to other options if they're being offered.

Sorta. They don't neccessarily have to "retrofit" their handsets if they're designed for CDMA in the first place, or as is often the case in parallel with GSM. Things have mostly gone the way you've pointed out (nicest new phones don't come out on VZ) for two big reasons:

1. Europe is GSM. That's a big incentive to design it once and get 2 big markets.
2. VZ puts its money into its network, whereas ATT puts its money towards phone discounts and manufacturer revenue sharing agreements. So if you're a phone maker, ATT is gonna make you a better deal. They have to - they have nothing else to compete with.

CDMA is going the way of the dodo.

by 2011-12 ATT, Verizon and TMO will be using LTE (4G) technology. i *hope* this means that we will have more competition and better prices and phone sharing. sprint is the lone wimax 4G company. i have bee told that they can switch to LTE through a software tweak if wimax doesn't work out.

I wish I didn't have an ingrained hatred for Sprint...otherwise I might give Clear's 4g WiMax a shot when my business moves locations in a couple months.

I know virtually nothing about this lawsuit or the patents which are the subject of it, but the whole idea of patents is to prevent others from using a person's or company's invention(s). Thus, patents are meant to (and often do) encourage innovation, and resultant competition, by competitors designing around and coming up with the next new thing.

It stopped working that way a long time ago. A corporation with deep pockets can patent almost anything, such as "unlock my phone by swiping a finger" or Amazon's "button that adds an item to your cart and takes you to the checkout screen in one step" Those are ideas, not inventions. I say deep pockets, because I know of private individuals who have applied for, and received, patents; if you don't have a team of lawyers and a big bucket of money, its a mighty hard fight.

Sprint was So. Fucking. Fail. When cellies were first feasible for common folks, that I will never use them.

I'm getting an iPhone tomorrow if it kills me.

Have you guys checked out the HD2? Pretty incredible device, especially for business.

Highly disappointing that it runs Windows and not Android, although the Sense UI looks/is incredible.

If you can't get these guys to buy an Android device, you won't get them to go after a Windows one. ;)
