Good point. After all, intoxication has always helped increase my appreciation of Shemp.

Phish just got less and less interesting as time went by. Compare the Providence '94 David Bowie with any post '97 jam. Boring.

geek alert.

Geek, yes, but he knows what he talks about. There are exceptions to his rule, though. Post '97 Phish wasn't uniformly uninteresting.

I blame Trey for killing Phish. I blame Phish for not actually doing only what they wanted to do, like they professed to do, and actually could've done. They were slave to a pattern that they developed and forced on their audience. They so could've taken a step back and broken the mold, and continued to have made some of the most amazing music at least within that scene, if not in all of rock music. They should have made more recordings that were informed by the genuis of The Siket Disc and retired half of their catalogue in performance, played alternative venues, alternative show formats, anything to keep it as fresh as it was for the first 16 years, give or take.

Good point about post ,97. It seems many people (especially those in the 28-40 age group) discount the post '97 period. My first show was in '98.

Derris I saw the Disco Biscuits. They can usually sell out the Roxy in Atlanta.

Another bad Jam band I wasted money on Government Mule total Cock Rock

Never huge into Phish, despite many attempts, but I can appraciate 'em for what they are. I AM however fucking pissed that I got no Widespread tix, I haven't seen them in a long time, and Discostu be damned, they are total qual.

I blame them all J; they all let their voices go to shit. Fishman drinks too much; Paige thinks he is bigger than he is. Mike thinks he is bigger than he is, plays with his pedals too much (an accomplishment for anyone in a band with Trey---a guy who makes an exibition of pedal switching), and is a MONGER, and fucking Trey, fucking Trey......

Trey, I never saw you make a mistake for a long, long time but your genius, best I ever (besides Zappa) heard ass got lazy, sloppy, and SORRY.........damn

I agree, BUT I think the Siket disc is garbage and want my damn 14 bucks back, but the album that it produced (Story of the Ghost) is their best studio disc.....I actually think that Phish's unrealised genius is at writing pop songs....my true favorite Phish songs are the brilliant little short ditties (Bouncing Round the Room, Water In the Sky, Brian and Robert, Chalkdust Torture, Dog Faced Boy, etc.) on the studio albums.

Welcome to the fold. Luckily I only wasted 2.5 years on this tripe.
I never heard a moe. song that I thought worthy of even sitting through while it was playing in another room. You'll eventually grow out of Phish when you realize that it's just a platform for Trey's mega-ego. My hate for WSP will stay the same.

i had a similar experience with trance and house music.
i got really into it for about two years, but once i realized that most of my pleasure came from the drugs and the scene i found myself pulling out the pavement albums again.

had a great time, but the music doesn't do much for me anymore.
certainly not 8 hours of it in a row.
