King,

Good list sir. I haven't spent enough time with your numero uno, but I can say I dig the low-fi, no "magic trick" aesthetic. Very honest. A few of the tracks are catchy as all hell. A couple in particular, Gay Human Bones and that first track with the refrain of "Put, put, put, put me out" I find myself singing, well, constantly. As for Free Energy, if you're a fan of rock n roll, you're going to find something to like about that record. Great fun. What's not to like. In my Top 10.

I was expecting to see that Mike Stinson record on your list. Right up your alley me thinks.

Btw - I have no idea who "F**kass" is, but he's an embarrassment to this place.

1. Harlem - Hippies Could have made my list. Probably should have been at least an honorable mention but I forgot about it
2. Tennis - Baltimore EP Never heard and know nothing about them
3. Free Energy - Stuck On Nothing Made my list
4. Aerial Pink - Before Today I sampled some tracks when I saw they were touring with Os Mutantes. Don't seem like my thing
5. The Walkmen - Lisbon Haven't heard this. Have kind of given up on them since I haven't liked anything since the debut other than the song Louisiana. Still a little intrigued though because a lot of people seem to like this one.
6. The Soft Pack - The Soft Pack Haven't heard. They play around S. CA. alot. Should probably check them out but probably won't.
7. Waaves - King of the Beach Don't know
8. The Parting Gifts - Strychnine Dandelion Never heard of
9. Dylan Leblanc - Pauper's Field Never heard of
10. phosphorescent - here's to taking it easy Suspect they might be up my alley but haven't heard
11. The Goodnight Loving - The Goodnight Loving Never heard of
12. Black Keys - Brother Haven't liked them in the past
13. Spoon - Transference It's ok but not really a fan of them anymore
14. The Henry Clay People - Somewhere on the Golden Coast Really wanted to like this but don't
15. Ben Sollee & Daniel Martin - Dear Companion Downloaded after tentoze included it on his list but haven't listened yet
16. J. Roddy Walston - S/T I really hate this
17. Jim Jones Revue - Burning Down Your House Hated their last one
18. Alejandro Escovedo - Street Songs of Love Made my list
19. Biters- Biters Never heard of them
20. Dan Kelly - Dan Kelly's Dream I'm a fan of Paul Kelly (his uncle). Downloaded and gave it a few listens but didn't think it was anything special

Kind of suprised DBT's didn't make your list. Wouldn't have been surprised to see Stinson or Dr. John either.

Yeah, I think you're dead on about Harlem & Free Energy. I haven't heard the Stinson album but I'm going to remedy that asap.

I think that's fair and it was part of the reason I second guessed the pick. But I just enjoy it.

I haven't heard the Stinson or Dr. John. I suspect both would be on my list if I had.

I think you might really like that Dylan Leblanc. His dad was a Muscle Shoals studio musician. Dylan is only like 18. I actually heard about it because Jason Isbell tweeted about it. Saw that it also made Patterson Hood's top 5 albums of the year. It's singer/songwriterish and not really anything like DBT does.

As far as DBT, I don't know. I couldn't really listen to the new one. Not sure if I just have DBT fatigue or if they just didn't deliver the goods.

Also Billy G, I had the exact same opinion of the Walkmen prior to the new one. The track Angela Surf City reminds me of something off of their debut, which is still my favorite album of theirs.

I wouldn't argue that it's one of their best albums but I think its better than Brighter than Creation's Dark. Also The Fourth Night of My Drinking, Birthday Boy, and Drag the Lake Charlie is probably the best three consecutive song stretch on any album this year.

Guess I should check out that walkmen & Dylan LeBlanc.

Well, you certainly seem like the expert to make such a claim.

What's your problem? Are you such a literalist that I should feel its necessary to add "that I've heard" to the end of that statement.

Lets all just refrain from making any grand declarations about music until we've heard everything that's ever been recorded.

Dampen that enthusiasm. Keep those opinions modest. Thanks.

I like the Harlem album. Maybe it's got a few more songs than necessary, but at the same time I thought they came up with enough good ideas to justify. For me, the strongest string of songs is sandwiched right in the middle, so unless you're paying attention the good stuff kinda hides on you.

Moxie's description below is pretty good. Clearly, nothing ground-breaking. Garage-y album of catchy fun songs. Lots of humor to them if slight. Saw em live, there's two singers who alternate between vocals/guitars and playing the drums. Seemed like they kind of hated each other, which added a little tension to the live show and made it more fun.

I can up it for you if you like but I know your searching skills are unparalleled.

Got it downloaded now; will check 'em out tomorrow.

1. Harlem - Hippies (like ok but honestly havent listened to it much...not sure it would make my top 20)
2. Tennis - Baltimore EP (never heard of it)
3. Free Energy - Stuck On Nothing (should make my top 5)
4. Aerial Pink - Before Today (was dead set against hearing this, but i've always been interested in dog fucking so am starting to become interested)
5. The Walkmen - Lisbon (have never been a big fan but I enjoy this one. borderline top 20)
6. The Soft Pack - The Soft Pack (good album, top 20)
7. Waaves - King of the Beach (see my comment on Ariel Pink)
8. The Parting Gifts - Strychnine Dandelion (never heard of it)
9. Dylan Leblanc - Pauper's Field (interested based on your comments)
10. phosphorescent - here's to taking it easy (ordered this but havent heard it yet)
11. The Goodnight Loving - The Goodnight Loving (dont know it)
12. Black Keys - Brother (in my top 5)
13. Spoon - Transference (in my top 5)
14. The Henry Clay People - Somewhere on the Golden Coast (in my top 20)
15. Ben Sollee & Daniel Martin - Dear Companion (dont know it)
16. J. Roddy Walston - S/T (in my top 20 or so)
17. Jim Jones Revue - Burning Down Your House (only liked their last one...havent heard this yet)
