sweet thanks. Like I said, I can't rmemeber if I even heard the Isbell before or not and the Sheepdogs sounds pretty cool.

I liked the Broken West well enough, but I'll check out this new project

I can chalk at least 50% of liking the new Isbell up to A. an early spring this year in Georgia and B. following the guy on Facebook & Twitter I feel like I've become personally invested in his career

Also don't worry about Band of Heathens, I heard that back when it leaked. Was decent

Apparently that Sheepdogs came out in February of 2010. But it's pretty good regardless

It's a re-release, I think. The date I have is Mar22, 2011. I'm still counting it.

Interesting that you like Braids. You don't like Animal Collective, do you?

Not really, I've tried listening to them a few times but I just don't connect. I just heard Braids on CBC3 awhile ago, dug up the album and liked it. I did notice that there does seem to be comparisons to AC and some band named Gang Gang Dance that I've never heard of.

Musically they are pretty similar to recent Animal Collective, but the vocals are pretty different, obviously. I think the Gang Gang Dance comparison comes from the vocals more than the music, but they're kind of in a similar vein.

I've seen Braids derided as lesser followers of Animal Collective, but I do think they have their own thing going on, most of which comes from the singer.

You've gotta be a some kinda major '60s fetishist to go all in on the Sheepdogs. Makes Moondoggies sound like they come from the future.

The way I feel about stuff like that now is that if you can make a case for it, it counts.

I mean, people were voting for In Rainbows for the our 2008 poll even though I think it finished in the top 10 of our 2007 poll so what the hell. The justification there just being that it wasn't released on CD until 2008, even though in 2007 it had been made available to everyone digitally for whatever price they wanted to pay.

I'm finding release dates for both '10 and '11. I'm ranking it this year. One of my favorites, too.

And then you and a GQ blurb got me to give it a real listen. There are 4 good to great songs, and 6 KWIsbell songs, but it is what it is. He should come out of this period with a heckuva JJCale or Kristoferson or Shaver or Jerry Jeff esque Greatest Hits written by a dude the general public is largely oblivious to album. I can't believe someone like Jimmy Buffett or even Tim McGraw hasn't trotted out a gussied up Dress Blues. You know, Fer The Troops!

That Sheepdogs is interesting. It's basically Canadian Drug Rock - Charlie Canadian, not Andrew Canadian. Its like they gave some hippies stuck in the Poland 1978 of Charlie's pictures a bunch of 60 albums, and let them watch Dazed and Confused and Almost Famous too many times. It's music from Texlahoma if you will. So of course, I really like it.

I need to hear anal major or whatever you guys are declaring this year's randim debut Paste Rock album we'll forget about.

I've only heard 10 albums from 2011, with maybe another 5 or so kicking about that I haven't had time to listen to yet.

So far

1. P J Harvey
2. King Creosote & Jon Hopkins

are the only ones I really like

3. Kurt Vile
4. Wanda Jackson

are decent enough

the rest haven't impressed.
