Start running and eating right. Do that couch to 5k program on the espn website. You might be lonely but you'll feel better, raise your self esteem, and maybe shed enough lbs that you're a contender. No time like the present bobbo.

I don't have bobs stunningly rugged looks, rapier wit, or various other pussy pulling powers, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to drop the weight permanently.

My grandma used to say,

"There's a lid for every pot". Just keeping being Bob. Don't lose yourself, or compromise who you are for the sake of someone else. At some point a girl is going to realize how special a guy she's getting and appreciate you for you.

I know two people who have been set back by this program - one who got severe shin splints and one who got a heirlein fracture in her lower leg - so if you're carrying more weight, you might walk more than they suggest before just jumping in.

I'm aware of the program and how it starts you slow, but just be aware. 2 out of x many people getting hurt lends itself to a small trend.

I personally fucking despise running for the sake of it and always have. Might explain something though.

If there were only one or two people for each of us there'd be a lot more miserable people out there. ...and, really, I'd feel threatened if I didn't have the miserable dater market cornered. Do what will make you feel better about yourself, it's all about you now, you big lug.

Couch to 5K is a great program. I think what Loog is talking about is possibly a by-product of getting a little overzealous and thinking that you are above where you really are. Most people doing the program aren't 20 anymore. You need to take that into consideration. I know you are supposed to walk for a minimum of 2 weeks before even considering doing any "light jogging".

I did it once upon a time and had incredible results. Then I semi-broke my kneecap in softball and just got out of it. I'm trying to lose weight now, and instead of running decided to hop on my bike. I've always had bad knees from playing lacrosse for years as a kid, and its a bit less stressful on them. Also, cutting out all the junk I found myself eating. Being a cheese-addict wasn't helping.

Not aware of the program but after I healed up from my stress fracture in my fibula my doc said "wait until you have no pain, and then wait 2 more weeks". After that, I started back running 1 mile about 3-4 times a week. Each week I added .2 miles.

It'd be like:

Week 1 - 1 mile
Week 2 - 1.2 mile
Week 3 - 1.4 mile

I avoided any injury and you build up slowly. There is no rush. I was being overly cautious though. It was actually quite hard to stick with the plan and not go over the mileage. Also motivating to get to the next week.

My two cents.

I wasn't aware of the "walk 2 weeks" before light jogging element - which would probably help a lot. The two people I know jumped right into the first day which I know is walking/jogging.

ive lost about 40 lbs in about a year without running at all because i fucking hate running. i just count calories using an iphone app and lift weights 3 days a week and get in some light cardio from time to time like walking the dog (not a euphamism) or playing basketball.

Man do I hate fucking running. HATE it. Tried a few times with the wife, and it was just not meant to be. Bike riding, though, is also free and much easier on your knees and shins.

Bobbo you ever thought about it? Like, is there some sports bar or other worthy destination you could work up to being able to bike to? You get to set your own pace, go as fast as you want, then one day you notice it takes you half the time it used to. Anywho.

I miss the good old days when men were allowed to be fat and could just waltz into a strip joint with a pocket full of cocaine and all physical faults were instantly forgiven.

Totally agree with this. There is someone out there waiting to smother you and prevent what's inside from escaping until you boil over. Don't lose hope.
