What about Leonard Shelby? I'd assume he's been out of jail for awhile now. Wonder why he never came back.

The tombstone engraving sounds familiar but I don't remember if its him or not. What I remember about him was that some cop was hassling a female friend of his and he decided to get revenge. Don't remember the details but whatever he did it landed him in jail. His last post was saying that he wouldn't be around for awhile as a result. It might have been over at CMJ because I can't seem to find a Leonard Shelby in the obner member list. Either that or he was embarrassed by it and changed his name when he got out of jail and IS one of our regulars. I prefer to assume the latter.

Ole Leonard. If I were a better stalker I'd know what he was up to now. It was CMJ, too, don't think he ever came over to Obner.

ROCK!

I signed on to CMJ in 2002. I suppose jokes about CMJ subscriptions is still too soon?

Joined in 2004 I think, it was during my computer science class. My friend joined too, and we would fake argue in threads, we were sooo cool, back when I was anarky, fun times.

When I used to do radio shows pretty frequently and didn't have time for adequate preparation back in 2000-2002, I would just go through that top 1000 songs of all time thread on the CMJ board -- which consisted of a lot of flavor of the month bullshit -- download 20-30 songs from it, burn it to CD (cutting edge) and lazily use that for my programs.

I was on CMJ for awhile when I was in school, have no idea what my username was back then. Remember it went down for awhile, and Dr. Evil K set up a board and I was on there. Then came this "obner" thing. Crazy how much time I've been boarding.

Yep. Tony.
He joined us for a couple of those old Chicago boarder lunchtime meetups, too. A bit snooty, but really not a bad guy.

Speaking of those old Chicago meetups, anyone heard from "Ampersand"?

That's who I thought of.

Does anyone remember when we had a high school-ish survey about superlatives (pretty sure OPA! organized it) in like 2004/5 and fastnbulbous was kind of suprisingly voted "Most Annoying?" I always figured it was solely because of his know-it-all attitude, his reviews, always referencing his reviews and site, and his rating system (wasn't almost everything on his site between a 9- and a 9+ or something?). I feel like he quit the board shortly afterwards.

I always appreciated his music discussions. I just took umbrage with his approach to music at times. I believe he once claimed he had listened to something like 400+ new albums in a year and was able to completely digest them all and assign ranks to them.

I just find that impossible and crosses the line of enjoying music/appreciating music into obsessive collecting and turning it into some sort of intellectual exercise.

The fact that so many here still hold this up as a highlight of their lifetime in comedy colors so much of my thoughts here over the years.
