Uncut's list:
50 Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Unknown Mortal Orchestra
47 The Caretaker – An Empty Bliss Beyond This World
30 Tim Hecker – Ravendeath, 1972
23 Thurston Moore – Demolished Thoughts
22 Gang Gang Dance – Eye Contact

These will no question make my list with Caretaker, Hecker, and GGD all probably in the top 10.

Quote:
25 Bill Callahan – Apocalypse
24 Real Estate – Days
18 Tinariwen – Tassili

These all have a shot at making my list. That Real Estate is my surprise of the year. I had no intention of even listening to that record, but after that It's Real track had been in my head for weeks I checked out the album and really like it.

I can't believe I missed a new Tom Waits album. It's pretty great too.

As fine a country-rock LP as Mr. Howie has ever put to tape, like George Jones fronting Sweeheart-era Byrds.

I was unaware of this release and need to track it down before years' end. This is the same John Howie Jr. of Two Dollar Pistols and 2004's Hands Up, which is an effin classic.

Almost all of these rank among my favorites of the year. I still can't get behind that Peaking Lights and Pure X and I am seeing them all over the place.

That Eternal Tapestry/Sun Araw and the Blues Control/Laraaji (which I am surprised to not see on here) were excellent collaborations that I think went kind of overlooked this year.

As far as Woodsman, I liked Rare Forms better than this one, but Mystic Places does a really nice job of packaging a sort of bliss into bite sized form.

Woods are a band I can't believe I slept on for so long, and am quite surprised that more people on this board haven't championed that record this year. Also, I am really happy to see Unknown Mortal Orchestra getting what looks like a good bit of attention as that record has consistently gotten better for me throughout the year.

Lastly, Wooden Shjips, love them, love everything they have done, I think they might be the outright coolest band in the world, and having Sonic Boom at the helm on this record only made them that much better. That is the one record from this list that I think appeals to the widest audience on this board, and will for sure be a top ten for me this year.

That Yuck album just arrived at my inbox.
From what I've been hearing from y'all (and elsewhere) it might change my top 10 for 2011.

Pretty good performance of that song, but the sound quality's not so good. Obviously you don't like band, anyway, but they seem to do what they do live really well.

But good job, though. If you want to convince people that a band sucks, post a video of an uncomfortable in-store performance with poor sound quality.

And they were #3 on that list, not #2. #2 is LCD Soundsystem. #1 is perennial board favorite MMJ.

Seems to have a lot of albums I have seen talked about on here.

I think this is the first list I have seen that Bjork record pop up on.

http://www.last.fm/bestof/2011/artists?

Probably the most accurate way to decide what the no.1 artist of 2011 is/was. Last.fm's scrobble-based lists.

Also, the no.1 in the US (default is world), is surprising.

*edit* seems its based on listeners...not overall scrobbles. Was wondering why the numbers seemed very, very low.
