our band was ok. bunch of old folks belting out some motown standards. they actually sounded really good despite some of them looking really cheesy. motown is the way to go when mixing old and young folks.

Since I'll be marrying Thom Yorke, I already declared that the rest of the band members will be playing at my wedding. ;)

As many of you know, I got married two weeks ago. As many of you also know, my favorite band ever is The Bluerunners, from my hometown (Lafayette, LA).

About 2 months before the wedding, I called their manager, who is a friend of mine and asked if the band would be avail for the wedding and he thought they would be touring east. I was frustrated and decided to just make some mix cds and play those.

About 2 weeks before the wedding, he called and said that they actually weren't going to be on the road and they could do the date if I could help them score at least one gig on the way to Austin. I lucked out (again) because Stubb's opened up and I got the band of my dreams to play my wedding.

I'm just getting my feet under me after getting home from the honeymoon last night and saw some pics of me and "Mrs. Hance" chank-a-chanking in our formalwear.

I don't know how or why this all happened, but, I have to assume that God must really like my wife and I'm just lucky that she loves me. . .

The quality of a wedding band or DJ is proportionate the level of the free booze.... Enough booze, people will dance to anything.

No to chicken dance, yes to Tone Loc one last time and then never again (until your next buddy's wedding). No to Ashford and Simpson, but yes to Prince's Little Red Corvette.

That is if you were in hs/college in the late 80's. But then again, wifey and I eloped nearly 14 years ago. So based on my experience, I say fuck it, take that money your wasting for a 3 hour dog and pony show and take a hell of a honeymoon.

(edit for spealing mistackes)

Damn, I just remembered that my brother had The Two Dollar Pistols at his wedding. That was the best EVER.

They actually had a DJ for like an hour for the first dance ("Through the Years" - Kenny Rogers) and some romping; and then the Pistols came on for a crazy-ass two hour set.

Damn. Best wedding EVER.

Thanks for commenting that this worked for you guys - It makes me feel a lot better - I'm getting married at the end of next month and we are just going to hook up one of our MP3 players with a predetermined playlist to the PA :) We are working some oldies, some popular stuff and plenty of the stuff we love.......

I think I've mentioned before that just as a gag we've been considering throwing in The Mountain Goat's "No Children" into the mix just to see if anybody is paying attention :)

:)

cool. if i had my new rio at the time, i would've done the same thing, even though the guy that was in charge might not've figured it out. :P

somewhere in our mix, we played prince's "gett off" and lyle lovett's "she's no lady". our wedding day was also her birthday, so we played the beatles birthday song too. :) at the end, we played a postal service "such great heights" and the honeymoon song from everclear. but at the beginning, we played a bunch of older tunes so everyone would want to dance, then mixed in prince, outkast, dee-lite and love & rockets later.

ah, the memories.

& to reflect what somebody else mentioned, if there's enough booze, people will dance to anything.

There's no way in hell I would ever go with a DJ, but that's just me. Kinda hard to do the jewish songs right with a DJ. The band I've selected is absolutely incredible, and will even learn a song I intend to play for my wife at the reception.

They even promised me they'd do the Eddie Kendricks version of Get Ready

are we gonna have to write you vows for you, too? i thought you were on vacation.

is there anything that proclaims you can't just load up the ipod and plug it into a PA or something?

dude, i'm going to need a vacation when i get back. this family is designed as a group of places in which to hide from each other and the problems therein. if i don't find a way to distract my brother-in-law long enough to get him to stop following me around then i'm going plotz. i suspect that the madison leg will involve some heavy drinking.

as far as the ipod thing, there's two reason's not to: A) this is a classy affair for her parents, and they've already compromised enough by inviting my clan. B) i don't think that they've envisioned their daughter's wedding as an occasion to showcase what a pompous ass i can be. if we can get a band that can learn a JAMC song then i'll be happy, i don't think that they'd really be all that impressed by a "rare groove session" like dalen's made-up wife.
