in high school, one of the teams we played had a player named Kokain Mothershed...it's a shame he didn't do anything at the next level

waiiiiit a minute...it's looks like he played some college ball...a google turned up this from a 2003 Missouri Southern media guide

Quote:
The Game: The Lions open their 2003 season on the road, traveling to Muskogee, Okla. to take
on an NAIA squad, the Bacone College Warriors. Southern, 5-6 overall last year, returns six starters
on either side of the ball. However, the Lions will have a new face at quarterback this year, as
senior Kokain Mothershed replaces the record-setting Josh Chapman, a 2002 All-America.
Defensively, Southern should be improved with a stout defensive front, an almost-new linebacking
unit and a retooled secondary with veteran leadership.

There's a English soccer player with the unfortunate name of Dean Windass.

Of course the commentators always pronounce it "Windiss" but there not fooling anyone.

i've never understood why white people get so hung up on how "strange" people whose name's aren't john or chuck's parent's must have been. if you're going to give your kid the same name that everyone else gives their little piece of shit then maybe you should stop feeding him that crap about him being some kind of ever-unique starflake or some shit.

Here is a great quote from Mean Girls that fits perfectly.

As delivered by Tim Meadows

[Mr. Duvall is introducing Cady to the class]
Mr. Duvall: Her name is Cady. Cady Heron. Where are you, Cady?
Cady: That's me. It's pronounced like Katie.
Mr. Duvall: My apologies. I have a nephew named Anfernee, and I know how mad he gets when I call him Anthony. Almost as mad as I get when I think about the fact that my sister named him Anfernee.

Just think how great the world will be when all these 2.3ers's kids grown up, and we are led by people named Dakota, Cheyenne, Connor, Dylan and Tyler*

People want their children to be unique in the abstract, but in practice, when yr. kid turns out lie somone like m, you're not so keen on that anymore ;)

*No offense to any schmucks who have these names or who name their chillens these names.

yes, because these little assholes will have a bigger sense of entitlement, and if possible, be even stupider.

I didn't wanna say anything but since you mentioned it, this whole thread is dumb. Sitting here and making fun of peoples' names (which aren't the typical WASP names) is offensive to the boarders who do have ethnic names.

seriously, it's kind of disappointing that people who claim to be so creative and artisticly minded get so threatened by names that aren't in the bible. then again we are all assholes so maybe it shouldn't be surprising.

JimAnne?! Can you imagine going through life with a half-man/half-woman name like that? You know the parents were really hoping for a boy and wanted to name it James, but out popped a girl and the mother wanted to name it Anne. But the dad really liked "James" because "Jim" is such a buddy-name, and he forced her to tack Jim onto Anne. And now they have a little freak.

Also, what about the Latino adults who go by Nacho or Taco? Or, even, Flaco (i.e. Jimenez)? I think those are swell, but I am sure most of you look at them as no different than Laqanda, Lakresia, Luwanda, and Lutonya.

Well, you suck.

And, just to piss you off, my first-born will be named Benin.

I'm sure not threatened and nor would I insult actual ethnic names.

But considering the fact someone I know, knows someone who named their daughter Urethra because they'd never heard the name before and it sounded pretty, well...I think that says a lot.

I just find it amusing and sad at the same time because I'm sure these people didn't care going through life with a name their parents may have made up because of god knows why.

Heck, my dad was trying real hard to name me Winifred and frankly these days I think that woulda been a hell of a lot cooler then Jennifer.

my point is that there's just no telling whether these names are family names, traditional culture-specific names, or what, and while i expect this sort of xenophobic derision from dalen i didn't think that i'd see it from the lot of you. it's good to know that jen thinks that her coworker is a slut for having her two kids before she was 20 though (my grandmother did the same thing, that whore), and that she disagree with her decision to give them unique names. that really clarifies things for me.

I think this thread magnifies what's wrong with middle America these days. Unfortunately, ethnic people who have "foreign" names and who speak another language are frowned upon and are labeled as uneducated.
