I'd definitely buy it whole bean and grind it, but it's not bad for the price.

That blossom is a pretty design, but if it's not making espresso, i don't see shops buying it other than for the wow factor that most customers won't notice or taste, especially since any good shop is making pour-overs, presses, clevers, siphons, and aeropresses in addition to espresso, and you can't skimp on an espresso machine (well maybe now you can since ZPM out of atlanta is about to break wide open). A chemex is 35, a press isn't much more, v60s and clevers are cheap, a siphon is about 100-150, and an aeropress is 25-35.

If I was a well off coffee shop I'd consider it, but if i was just doing o.k., i'd consider taking that money and putting it into a speedster.

Any thoughts on Dunkin' Donuts coffee? I mean the kind that's in the bag, already ground. It's only $6, is it any good?

I brew my own in my office because the main kitchen coffee pot in our office is always full with Dunkin Donuts. It think it sucks.

Was so good last week that I nearly bought it again. Billy, go there.

Yeah, I want to try it. The problem is it's downtown which is about 6 miles away. Intelligensia is about 1 mile and when I need beans, I usually don't have time or interest in making a 30 minute roundtrip just to get them. If I find myself nearby when they are open, I'd definitely like to buy some to try though.

I want my beans as fresh as possible so no shipping for me.

how long would it take to ship it six miles? Roasted one day, qc the next day and out. I've found beans the first few days after roasting are really gassy during the bloom. The sweet spot is day 3-10 or 12 before it starts to get off roast.

I try to buy my beans within 3 days of the roast and finish them within a week. That works best when I buy them either right when I'm out of beans or when I know I only have a day's worth of beans left. It probably wouldn't take more than a day or at most 2 to ship beans six miles so while it's not ideal, the shipping time isn't a dealbreaker. The problem is that they would probably sit on my order a couple of days before shipping which would mean I'd either need to keep more coffee around in case that happened or do without coffee at home. Plus I'm perfectly happy drinking Intelligensia beans until the stars align that I'm downtown at the same time that I happen to need beans.

Pretty mild compared to the Los Cipreses from Counter Culture. This one tastes less fruit forward but as it cools off it can get a lot more complex, sometimes almost woody.

I tried cold-brewing for the first time this summer. It was a'ight, but didn't change my life. I finally managed to get a decent espresso out of the machine at my office, so I've been making americanos and lattes (that's for you, Loog) at work lately. For beans, we order from Grounds for Change at work and grind them with an entry-level espresso grinder.

At home, it's higher-end pre-ground stuff from the grocery, via electric percolator. Fortunately, even the corner stores here carry acceptable coffee, so I'm not compelled to choose between DD, Chock Full o' Nuts and Folgers, but for the record, those are listed in order of preference. DD is a damn sight better than Folgers or Maxwell House, but it's not comparable to basically anything else.

And yes I do drink decaf, but only by necessity.

This is outrageous. Cory, pick some up at Houndstooth. Billy, don't miss out on this one.

As a result of this thread I picked up some Cafe Bustelo this week.

Pretty good. I've been a creature of habit with coffee for far too long.

this kenya single lot peaberry was outrageous. I don't know if you can still get it.

They're roasting a blend from Aida Batlle on Dec. 3. $41 for 8 oz, but I had a cup of her tanzania last year that I still dream about.

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger. If any coffeehouse near you gets their hands on that microlot, go buy a cup.

http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2011 ... act_sanneh to read about Aida.

Meant to mention that I did get some of this and it's very good. Not sure that I like it enough to regularly pay the $4 shipping on top of the price of the beans but it is very good.

Glad you liked it! I'm really thinking of pulling the trigger on that microlot.

But that's like a week's worth of gas, or six weeks worth of puppy food.

But then again, i'm an addict, and what else do I have to look forward to?

The La Violeta from http://cuveecoffee.com/ is treating me really well this morning. Washed Costa Rican.

Madcap San Sebastian today...

they're the wierdest roaster for me. It never knocks me off my feet the first day, but a few days in their beans are outrageously good. The Ardi was the only exception to that which knocked me out from the first cup to the last.

I could afford this habit, but I think i'm going to try and build a roaster. Any one have friends who roast?

I'm thinking of mimicking and tweaking this design, but it looks pretty good.

I was downtown last week and swung by and bought some of this:

It was even better. The barrista who waited on me also told me it was his favorite of their beans.

I like cold brewing, but it feels so wasteful. It doesn't help that when I get it just right, I want to drink the whole batch. I enjoyed Blue Bottle's Nola recipe with a little chicory [Link], and I even used nothing special beans.

Kentuckians huh? haven't heard of em, i'll have to see if anyone around here carries them.

I like my roasts lighter than full city+ typically but it really depends on the bean.

I'm bidding on a roaster. If i don't get it, I'm building a roaster.
