What's the delay on Free Energy? Seems like they put out that single way back in the spring or early summer.

Guarded about Free Energy. The first two songs they put out are decent, the third sounds like a Vampire Weekend outtake. Just horribly overproduced fey bullshit.

+1 Silver Seas, John Moreland, Elvyn, Neko, J. Roddy

And maybe V.V. Brown will actually release an album in '13 instead of shelving it like her last two.

sounds kind of like a few of JEFF the Brotherhood's tracks.

while we're talking about fuzz, I'm looking forward to the new Purling Hiss

In addition to the already-mentioned Romano, this month sees drops from Gurf Morlix, Eric Burdon, and (I'm still holding out hope for one more decent outing) Kristofferson.

You didn't miss anything! It's not even out yet!

Hey look at me, I'm still complaining about leak culture in 2013! Woooo

I'm looking forward to the Foxygen and Toro Y Moi albums that come out next week.

Later on: Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Iceage, and Low.

Not a whole lot on my radar for 2013 so far. That's OK with me.

4/23 - Junip - S/T - second album from Swedish band featuring José González

first single, Line of Fire

AND

Iron & Wine - Ghost on Ghost sometime this spring!

this tune will not be on the new album, but it's always nice to hear something new from Mr. Beam

That Low link isn't working anymore anyway. Everyone can just tell me how good it is and I'll probably buy it when it comes out!

Speaking of which, where's the Official Purchase Thread for 2013?!?

more upcoming goodness:

Quote:
Soul artist Charles Bradley is set to release Victim of Love, the follow-up to his debut album No Time for Dreaming, on April 2 via Daptone Records. Dubbed the “Screaming Eagle of Soul,” the 64-year old singer experienced a late-in-life career boom after being discovered by Daptone’s Gabriel Roth. Following the release of No Time for Dreaming Bradley garnered praise and buzz for his intense live performances as well as spots on several year-end best lists.

According to the album’s press release, “where Dreaming hewed close to the rough-and-ready R&B sound Daptone has become known for, Victim is stylistically more restless, edging closer into the kind of psychedelic soul The Temptations explored in the early ’70s.”

Bradley is expected to announce the first single and tour dates in the coming weeks.

The confirmed tracklist for the album is as follows:

1. Strictly Reserved For You
2. You Put The Flame On It
3. Let Love Stand A Chance
4. Victim Of Love
5. Love Bug Blues
6. Dusty Blue
7. Confusion
8. Where Do We Go From Here
9. Crying In The Chapel
10. Hurricane
11. Through The Storm

very cool news:

Quote:
The brand-new album from The House of Love will be titled She Paints Words in Red and is expected to be released in March or April on Cherry Red Records, according to an announcement today on the band’s Facebook page that also revealed the cover art for the group’s second post-reunion effort and fifth record overall.

Last week, the House of Love’s Facebook page made the surprise revelation that a new album had been completed and delivered “fully mastered and mixed.” A firm release date for She Paints Words in Red has not yet been set, nor has a tracklist been revealed.

The current House of Love lineup features original members Guy Chadwick (vocals, guitar), Terry Bickers (guitar) and Pete Evans (drums), plus new(er) bassist Matt Jury. That lineup recorded and released Days Run Away in 2005 and has toured sporadically in the intervening years, playing, most recently, its only 2012 concert at a festival in Poland last summer.
