Well, that makes sense I guess. Still a little surprised they agreed to do it at all, though.

I think he explained that part pretty well though, no? Its a once in a life time thing, etc.

I'm not sure why it even needed to be addressed: I assume that all Super Bowl or awards show-type performances are to some degree pre recorded mainly for the reasons that Flea mentioned: logistics and sound. Its a TV show, not a concert. Everybody knows the Chili Peppers (and for that matter, Bruno Mars) can play their instruments, so why make it sound like shit? Because I think we can all agree that it would sound like shit.

And I think Bruno Mars is mega-talented even if his music is not my thing. I mostly always watch the Grammy's and his performances the best 2 or 3 years have reminded me of the "good" side of pop music. Do your thing, dude.

I forget what sports nuts they are, I guess. Because I feel like I could probably pass it up. Last one I enjoyed was Prince, and it was because he:

1. Was CLEARLY playing and singing live, and
2. Tore it the fuck up.

I just never enjoyed watching lip syncing, so I'm probably a poor judge of when or why it was a good idea to agree to do it. I'm always gonna harumph about it.

I don't mind Bruno Mars simply because he seems like he just wants to entertain. Also because he's part filipino.

I can understand that. I remember when the Stones played I was the ONLY person at a pretty good size SB party that cared.

Also, the Prince one and U2 after 9/11 are the gold standard as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed. Springsteen is the other one that sticks out for me but not quite at this level.

Prince was on that guitar like a shark on a whale carcass, where you have to beat them over the head with oars and shit to get them to let go. I AIN'T HAD ENOUGH YET.

I hate all lip syncing but don't have a problem with them not plugging in their instruments and singing live over a prerecorded track. I wouldn't pay to go see it, but understand why they'd make that decision for something like the superbowl.
