RIP Karol Józef Wojtyla

I was just reading that he had two doctorates - in mystic theology and philosophy.

And he made a name for himself in Poland as an agitator against the communist government.

I'm far from an expert on this but....In the Catholic Church there are diocesan priests and religious priests. Don't get hung up on the word religious. Obviously they are both religious in the basic sense.

Diocesan priests take care of the needs of the diocese they have been assigned to and their 'boss' is the Bishop of their particular diocese. They take vows of celibacy and obedience. They actually DO get a salary.

Religious priests belong to an order...ummm like the Jesuits etc. They take their orders from whoever is the head of their, uh, order. In addition to the vows that the diocesan priests take, they take a vow of poverty. They do not receive a salary and are supported by their religious order.

As far as the differences between the two in how they serve the church you would have to ask someone else.

There you go. Another exciting Sat. night for Steve.

Being chosen as the Pope is not really something you can get out of. It's kinda like the mafia.

Nah priests have a really small stipend I believe. Any cars are usually donated to them by Catholic car dealers and all.

<--- went to a Catholic high school

not only do priest get a salary, but they get retirement. most people confuse the vows religious orders take and priest vows. all religious orders' vows vary, and depend on the specific order.

<------ went to Catholic School, lives in highly populated catholic area, has no relatives that are not catholic, and worked for the Brothers of the Sacred Heart during high school. I

I'll explain for you:

1. Follow all the rules. It's the proper observation that makes it Jewish, not the actual reasons for the rules.
