ok i figured out how to do this a bit better. have a classic section for albums that have a wide consensus as such, and have a honorable mention section with ppls reccs for really good albums (which is what i am really interested in).

also, i forgot eno and kraftwerk. my bad.

good lord, you're trying to make a "classic" electronica list and you don't even know who juan atkins is.

i like dalen's picks. he has good taste in "electronica." ;) i'll post up electronica albums that were/are essential to me later...

I agree with BJW. Isn't Eno considered the godfather of electronic music in most circles? The list doesn't seem to comprehensive yet - a bit heavy on mid to late-90's and current players.

How's 'boot:

Jean Michel Jarre
Tangerine Dream
Yellow Monkey Orchestra
Dead Can Dance
some Serge Gainsbourg
Derrick May
Carl Cox
Bowie - Low

Yeah, this list needs to reach waaaay back before 1990 to include stuff like Eno, Terry Riley, Stockhausen, etc.

I feel like adding;
Black Dice "Beaches and Canyons"
DJ Food "Jazz Breaks" and "Refried Food"

Also, to be more specific with Eno:

Image

Probably the best thing to ever fall under the "ambient" moniker.

erm, for the time maybe, but not now. not even close.

artists like biosphere, pete namlook, dead texan, johann johannsson, deathprod, deaf center, and even max richter have outdone eno.

fair play to him for being an originator.

Lots of good stuff already mentioned. Does this one fit?

Image

If so, I'd also be tempted to add some Peace Orchestra and Tosca.

On the old school tip, I gotta toss out this one...

Image

Another not strictly electronic but maybe a fit would be...
