as mentioned earlier, check out kenneth cole. sometimes you can find them at dsw for decent prices. and when you're checking out the kenneth cole site, pick yourself up a watch.

Yeah, I wear, like Carhart jeans or shorts and a button up shortsleeve because I could either be in fron of computer or sitting on a lawn mower depending on how my day goes.

Today (covering office shift at storage office) Chords, Short sleeve plaid cowboy shirt, argyle socks, low cut converse all-stars.

That being said, I want a pair of brown loafers. Any suggestions on a good and comfortable brand?

Kurtz, the aforementioned Clarks are good. I have a pair in the closet, check em out. They were like $65 at some outlet store.

They are 'hipper' than penny loafer, which I am assuming you are not planning on buying

I've got a pair of light brown Doc Martens wing-tips that I've worn for around six years now. Still perfect. I've had to replace the laces a few times, but other than that they're choice in every way. Best part is, I picked 'em up new offa eBay for around $40. If I can find an image, I'll post it.

If you're suit, now, I'd go with black. Docs does those, too, and you can't beat the comfort.

Now, that would be stepping on Uncle Brian's toes wouldn't it.

Also, what do you think of those brown Nunn Bush boots? At $65, I'm gonna have a hard time not buying them...

I think you would do well to sport this snappy ensemble:

penny loafers look better on girls in a retro kind of way.
short sleeve button down shirts are just wrong.

i worked as an art director in men's fashion for several years and am way over opinionated so i don't mean to offend anyone.

on the watch thing: it's funny but i never really wear/believe in watches except when seeing a client and then it's more like an accessory. i still am constantly asking people what time it is.

maybe you should buy some clothes first and then pick out the most universal shoe to get started with.

I count us lucky to have a critical, experienced and (most important part), lesbian woman to give us honest opinions....

Big ups Ayah.

the fact that it's a cowboy shirt redeems you as do the mother of pearl snaps (buttons would be better.) yeah, the whole weather in the south thing. i've never had to deal with that but if short sleeve button down shirts are the way to go they should be stylish. not just a solid color.

i do like 'em cap'n. they're simple, clean and contemporary in an adrogynous way (no, not faggy--see penny loafers for (straight) men)
keep 'em polished.

now i'm off to buy myself a new pair of shoes for an interview i have tomorrow.

If it's got mother of pearl snaps and is button down, it's just plain wrong. Even for lawn mowing.

In addition to the very wise advice Ayah has provided -- I can't stress enough how much nicer a man looks with an IRONED shirt. If you don't wanna iron, have someone else do it.

The androgeny is probably due to their actually being womens shoes. It's not easy to find men's size 6/7 shoes anywhere, and when you do, there's little selection if any, and they cost a lot. These were so gender-neutral I figured nobody would know. And man do they fit!

True. Also, it's funny but before I got married I sometimes wouldn't bother with wearing a t-shirt underneath my dress shirt. My wife got on my case about this and now I always do even though it still doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

This would be my suggestion as well. I bought my first pair of J&M wingtips ten years ago, and they're still going strong.

I just splurged for another pair of J&M dress loafers, burgundy, to go with the black.

The shoes are more expensive than Bass, Florsheim, etc. but the quality is much much better, and they'll hold up. I've also found them to be more comfortable.

Ten years for a $200 pair of shoes versus 1 year for an $80 pair of shoes. You win in the long run, and you look better.

how did this become exclusively about shoes?

i have to business casual up my wardrobe, and absolutely refuse the golf shirt to a ridiculous level. If it wasn't like 100 degrees in here in summer i'd probably just overdue it and wear a suit every day.

I like 'em. They're on the "safe" side, which can be boring, but I imagine they'll go with tons of stuff.
