I've never heard that Godspeed album, but congratulations on a stupid post.

And we all realize that Albini didn't produce Spiderland, right?

It was produced by Brian Paulson, but Albini has produced a lot of great-sounding records.

Albini did Tweez, the 1st Slint record

and well, it sucks. I think Albini even admits that it is not nearly as good as spiderland.

I don't know. It probably doesn't have wide enough appeal to be a "classic."

It is one of the best albums of all time though. So if that counts, then yeah.

Yes, because it'd probably be a piece of shit if he produced that too.

Yeah, I like Albini's productions for the most part, especially some of the recent stuff he's done. But the Wedding Present Seamonsters album he did back in those days sounds great. Real dynamic. Love the drums. Nice live sound. Really like what he's doing with the Electrelane girls too. Lots of mood and dynamics, quiet and loud. Nicely done. The new one is supposed to be mostly live in the studio. Should be great. And of course Nina Nastasia! What a great job he did on The Blackened Air. And my favorite Low album of recent vintage. Another very nice job. I just recently picked up the album he recorded for the Austrian band Valina. Kind of a mathy thing called Vagabond. Pretty nice. Guess they toured some in Europe with his band Shellac and so he agreed to record them in Chicago. And I do like Spiderland a lot, but not as much as some of the things it led to. It does have a very unique sound. Very heavy, but seems so open and well lit at times. I think it's probably tough to make a record that sounds like that or there would be more of them. But most producers and engineers nowadays don't get the chance because everyone wants it as loud as possible so there aren't any dynamics left in most rock and pop music anymore. Just all compressed and closed in.
