I loves me some David Cross. His comedy CDs continue to entertain me months or years after they have been released. He's just a really interesting guy to listen to even when his jokes aren't loud-out-loud funny.

"Here's your sign."

edit: not ron white, but the other one.

You want jokes? We got jokes.

We will give you, babe and oldbulee your own forum for Boudreaux jokes.

Hee Haw also displayed lots of, in the words of Bill Hicks, "jigglin' titties".

Larry the Cable Guy is funny as hell. For years before he broke big he would call in a radio show in Baltimore several times a month and the shit was pretty damn good. He's honed his act to be more audience friendly, but he's got talent.

David Cross can be amusing, entertaining or even downright funny. These days though he's too smitten with himself and seems hellbent on becoming the male Janeane Garafalo. Hell, they even look the same.

Best part of this RS article is when they say "And you probably haven't heard of him unless you live in a Red State," which has officially become the calling card of lazy journalism. I mean, these fuckers (Blue Collar Comedy Tour) are every where.

Cotton is right, the show with the skits is enough to make me want to shoot myself. Larry can be fairly funny, in a quite retarded way, but Ron White's "I wasn't drunk in public" bit is ficking hilarious.

Yes, most of the humor is facile, but then again, so are most of us.

I think it may be both. But it also illustrates the EXTREME bs reporting in RS these days. I mean their political coverage is pretty much a joke these days, and it bleeds through to everything else. It's funny because I have noticed A LOT of RS hate around here, and I always thought that it deserved a better shake, but I am souring on it a bit these days. Mainly, they cover shit I already know about, and are filled with pretty bad writing. Sad, sad, sad.

for the record, this wasn't a "one guy is funny the other isn't" thread
just more of a pot calling the kettle black observation.

i look just like David Cross, so i would never be TOO mean to the guy.

but its like one woman calling another woman ugly....even though you may never had judged the first womans appearance, the mere fact that she is slagging someone else automatically opens her up for criticism.....and god and the bible

I'm saying between Mr. Show profits, Arrested Development paychecks, cd sales and touring revenue this guy is rich.

Hell, even comedy central is showing Mr Show now so that's got to be worth some dough as well.

Plus he has done a lot of voice work, from Aqua Teen Hunger Force to Halo 2. He's no Jerry Seinfeld but he ain't hurting either.

i'm willing to bet that GTA San Andreas was the biggest paycheck he's ever gotten and that there are people on this board with more money than David Cross.
the cancelled cable show, being the eleventh character on a doomed fox show, and voicing a character for 1.5 episodes of an adult swim show is not real money. Sure, the touring and CDs have made him well off, comfortable even. But not huge money by any means.

Sales of Mr. Show must be decent enough to have three sets come out so far. He might only make $20K an episode of AD, so at 19 episodes he's pulled in $380K this year. I'm sure that at least ten of us who've made way more money than that this year. He's probably barely a multimillionaire. That's nothing on this board.

HBO got all the money to Mr. Show. all of it. 20K an episode for AD? I doubt it. If the show had gone on longer than 5 seasons, didn't have an ensemble cast, was on NBC or with a bankable star/creator, maybe. As is, hell no.

Ugh, Larry the Cable Guy is just the new Andrew Dice Clay, and even that might be too much of a compliment. He doesn't have the wit of shock comics like Sarah Silvemran, Laura Kightlinger, or even Adam Sandler.

Blue Collar TV is wretched. The funniest thing about it is how stupid they are for not making Ron White be involved with it (easily the only funny one from the movie)

David is right here.

He's not about wit. He's about reflecting the audience's inner goober and being a representation of how many "regular" rural guys see themselves. That may creep out some urban dudes, but those dudes are just as silly about what they think rednecks are all about and about their lack of perspective regarding how gooftard they look to rural guys.

Cross is a hell of a lot funnier, but he's just as much a comic twerp as Larry. And any good old boy could tell you that being a scrawny, self-absorbed, caustic priss doesn't necessarily make you smarter than the people you're mocking.

Silverman and Kightlinger aren't comparable. They have social satire points to their bits. Larry is about cheap laughs that his audience feels part of. The Toby Keith of comedy, unfortunately.

A not-very-good comedian in the Hee-Haw-for-the-new-milennium vein.

I agree with everything you said, but I don't think this is invalidating my point. Larry the Cable Guy is just a shitty comedian.

Cross probably doesn't make much money doing the things we love him for--Mr. Show, CDs, et al. But the parts in Scary Movie II, Men In Black, etc, those probably keep him afloat so he can do college gigs and cool shit.

Meanwhile you think proto-alt-comics like Emo Phillips, Gilbert Gottfried, Paul Reubens and Bob Golthwait weren't "acts" like Larry?

Oh it was Ron White I was thinking of. The "I'm not drunk in public." quote in Loogar's post was what made me remember him. I don't think it was that bit that wasn't funny but some other bit.
