I just repurchased this from BMG after getting rid of it a few years back. Realized I missed having it.

Well, since you mentioned reggae, I was just listening to this today. By no means obscure, but it is pretty great:

Old 97's - Too Far to Care, Fight Songs
Big Star - #1 Record
Pavement - Crooked Rain
Wilco - YHF

Strongly saecond the Mighty Diamonds - Right Time...one of my all time favorite reggae albums along with the Congos - Heart of the Congos.

and for a little country...Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger or Stardust.

Have fun.

I want each of you that read this rec about 3 albums that I need. Since it is aiming for late spring, and then into summer...I would prefer albums in the vein of: Classic/Country Rock, Reggae, Country, World, and Summer music in general...stuff that I will be able to put on at camp and just be thrilled. (For instance, I had every Bjork album on my mp3 player, but I deleted all but Debut and Post, because I don't think I'll want to listen to them in the coming months.)

Oh... I love the Oregon coast. It's interesting you should mention Debut because that album always makes me think of Oregon: I was traveling through there when that album came out & bought my copy in a sweet little record store in Eugene. The parts of the album with jungley sounds always make me think of driving through thebeautiful forests out there.

Anyway, my vote for a reggae album:

Burning Spear - Sounds from the Burning Spear

Recent-ish SoulJazz reissue of early Burning Spear. It is very beautiful, laid-back and bass-heavy, incorporating some Ethiopian and ska sounds. Great song writing too. So sweet. Perfect Summer music.

I may be a loner here, but me and my wife absolutely love Lyle Lovett
First vote - ...And His Large Band
Second vote - Joshua Judges Ruth
Third - Pontiac

I think the Lefty And Poncho album by Merle Haggard & Willie Nelson is pretty tops

Wayne Hancock's Thunderstorms & Neon Signs is pretty fun

I also like br549's first two or three albums a lot, but I'm slightly partial 'cuz two of 'em are from Lawrence/Kansas City

another Lawrence/Kansas country band worthy of checking out is Split Lip Rayfield - (think methanphetamine-fueled Bluegrass

and the Uncle Tupelo anthology is pretty sweet too
