And...
You DO all know that "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" is actually an OLD song from one of those Bob Hope/Bing Crosby "road movies", right?

I'm not sure that's true either, actually. It's not a TMBG original, but Hope/Crosby... not sure.

"Istanbul" was recorded in '53 by The Four Lads. Jimmy Kennedy wrote the lyrics and supposedly Nat Simon wrote the music.

The melody is ripped off from Saul Bloom's late 19th century "Snake Charmer Dance," written for the Chicago Expo and which Irving Berlin co-opted for "Harem Nights" and James Thorton used for "Streets Of Cairo."

It's also the melody for the hoochy-koochy dance.

I looked all this stuff up years ago cause I played TMBG a LOT on my college shows

They'll Need A Crane is excellent, too.

Right this moment, "I Palindrome I." Any one of a dozen songs could replace it on a whim.

I'm surprised to see so many post-Apollo 18 songs listed; as I see it, that's when the serious decline started.

I beg to differ. I think that is when the serious improvements and growth started.

my dad had flood at the time i first encountered the tiny toons cartoon representations of istanbul and particle man, at which point i thought they were the most bizarrely cool music around. then i kind of forgot about them until severe tire damage came out, and, older and wiser, gained an even stronger appreciation for one of my favorite bands.

don't let's start
hide away folk family
ana ng
rhythm section want ad
santa's beard
stand on your own head
hey mr. dj i thought you said we had a deal
i palindrome i
james k. polk
most anything off of 'flood'

So hard to pick a favorite...

I saw them in concert once here ten years ago and They made the entire audience get into a Conga line and dance!

The Statue Got Me High
Minimum Wage
I Palindrome I
Your Racist Friend
Which Describes How You're Feeling All The Time
Instanbul (Not Constantinople)

I really dig the "Courage The Cowardly Dog" bit they did for Cartoon Network.
