My collection is severely in need of pruning, too. I applaud you on a job well done. I have the hardest time picking albums out that I don't listen to, but the Ipod I got for Christmas is making things much, much easier. For whatever reason, the things I don't really care about are made much more obvious because of that white and silver box. I think that, in a roundabout way, that thing's given me more money back (well, credit at Zia, which saves me money in the end) since it entered my life. Another task for my weekend: colletion pruning.

Hopefully those 3 are Balinese Dancer, Homemade Blood, and No Other Love - 'cuz that's the trio I'd point to as the best of Chuck Prophet's discography (not counting his work with Green On Red). NOL is quite a departure from those previous two, however, so I can see how it's gonna be the sore thumb of the bunch.

BTW - I'm with ya on Delgados and Old 97s.

Homemade Blood & the Hurting Business are the two others. I have some Green on Red and Raisins in the Sun (his collaboration with Jules Shear and others) also. Raisins in the Sun is the one I listen to most.

Thanks for the comment on the Delgados and Old 97's ...I think you just saved me a second listen.

seein' as how you cried in opa's thread about me only posting on his threads, i'll chime in on your's. honestly, i think you should hold on to 'til shiloh. buju's great (crank up "champion" if you don't believe me)! it's one of my favorite reggae albums. i've got a soft spot in my heart for it too because i bought it in negril '95 when buju was the man in jamaica (just went back this spring). yeah, he recently might have said & written some stuff out of stupidity, but he triumphs on that album.

Personally, Billy, I'd trade in The Hurting Business before No Other Love. In fact, I did trade that one in.

Superchunk - No Pocky for Kitty - I don't think I'm exaggerating to say its maybe 40% of the volume level of my newer cds which annoys me and causes me to never listen to it.

this is true. and knowing them they'll be remastering the Trail of Dead albums before they get around to their own. damnit.

I can't its a cd-r burned from emusic downloads not a store bought copy, but if memory serves, I like the Hurting Business better than No Other Love anyway.

And Mojo thanks for the post....hope you're doing well. I'll give the Buju Banton another listen.

The Hurting Business is Chuck's " uptown urban Dylan" record and IMO is far better than both No Other Love & The Age of Miracles. Not bad, but not quite as good either.

I was going to say Lincoln and the self tittled White Stripes, but if you have Lincoln's highpoints on a collection and need the space, then go forward young man.

The first Stripes record is really solid, but does pale in compairson to the next two, but I think you should hang on to it. Elephant is a steaming pile and I sold it myself not long after purchasing.

To make room on my racks for recent purchases, get a little Amoeba credit, and generally weed out stuff that's just collecting dust I'm going to try to trade a bunch of stuff in.

Unless you want to make me a rediculously high offer for this crap its not for sale (I'd rather just get store credit than deal with mailing stuff around), but I thought I'd ask for advice on whether there's anything here really deserving of a last chance listen b4 I trade 'em in:

Old 97's - Fight Songs
Kevin Salem - Soma City
Kevin Salem - Glimmer
Menswear - Nuisance
Mayflies USA - Walking a Straight Line
Mayflies USA - The Pity List
Ben Lee - Breathing Tornados
Ben Lee - Grandpaw Would
The Living End - Roll On
The Living End - S/T
Palace Songs - Hope
Chuck Prophet - No Other Love
They Might Be Giants - Lincoln
The Wallflowers - Breach
The Wallflowers - S/T
Pete Yorn - Day I Forgot
Sunset Valley - Icepond
Sunset Valley - The New Speed
Supergrass - S/T
Pearly Sweets & The Platonics - Pick Yourself Up
Old 97's - Sattelite Rides
David Baerwald - Here Comes the New Folk Underground
Buju Banton - Til Shiloh
Belle & Sebastian - Dear Catastrophe Witness
Bottle Rockets - Brand New Year
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - S/T
Black Box Recorder - England Made Me
Black Box Recorder - The Facts of Life
The Living End - Hellbound
La Musica Della Mafia - Il Canto Di Malavita
The Delgados - The Great Eastern
Sting - Ten Sumonmoner's Tales
Sting - Nothing Like the Sun
Sting - The Dream of the Blue Turtles
Seafood - When Do We Start Fighting
Dave Pirner - Faces & Names
Oranger - The Quiet Vibrationland
Carlene Davis - Redeemed
Manic Street Preachers - Know Your Enemy
Disintegrated Einstein - Tell Your Friends
Milton Nascimento - Crooner
White Stripes - Elephant
White Stripes - S/T
Jeff Magnum - Live at Jittery Joes
Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise - New Ground
Superchunk - No Pocket For Kitty
BRMC - Take Them On Your Own

Any needles in this crapstack?

The only thing to keep is No Pocky for Kitty... Superchunk. The rest ... meh.

Goddammit! First Billy G and now Caputo. This means I'm gonna have to reacquire The Hurting Business to hear if I made a rash mistake. Definitely one of the pitfalls of the trader.
