I definitely recommend Batman Begins. I really liked Bale as Bruce/Batman, but why did he have to have that voice as Batman??

He probably did it to disguise his voice.

despite the thread going sideways, i will probably break my recent rparis pledge and see this movie. i like nolan, bale, oldman, caine and neeson quite a bit, and so i'll have to give this a chance. maybe this will be the first super hero flick that actually lives up to expectation.

I thought this patheteic character was well acted by Bill Murray. Is that what you mean? I didn't see Sideways, yet, so no comment. Blade 3 was good for what it intended to be.

Friggin' great movie. I own it....

High Fidelity is not some sort of apogee, zenith, pinnacle. Just a good movie reflecting special interest.

Not being a fan of Nolan's, the Critics' insights on Batman Begins have piqued my interest.

You got that right.

I stand by I, Robot. The others have kind of faded from memory, so perhaps they were...not so good.

Still, of the ones I saw, those were the best (of course, I only saw 11 or 12 movies from '04, methinks, so that's not sayin' much).

the movie was pretty good. not great, not mind blowing, but an interesting batman story nontheless. the movie could've done without katie holmes in general, and they PISSED al over the origin story, but these are things that can be chalked up to interpretation. If they head, however, inb the sequel direction they hinted at i'm going to be pissed

i guess it's too soon for Batzarro.

i'll probably see this tomorrow night once the nrrrds thin out a bit. How was Gary Oldman as Gordon? That's one of my major selling points right now. well, that and the scene where katie holmes tries to steer batman towards scientology.
Gary Oldman is god! He did a great job. Cant wait for the sequel

there are scores of great villains out there. shit, I'd rather see a Pennypacker movie than a (sorry kids, but this is trivial at best anyways) Joker movie. What about Bane? Mad Hatter? Clayface? Black Mask? Killer Croc? What about fucking Hush? It's only been 15 years since the first Burton movie and there's literally hundreds of classic story arcs to choose from.

the joker is supposed to be the end-all villain in the Batman canon, and should hence not be used up in the second film of the latest films.

and yes, Gary Oldman does rule. He's one of the few people left in Hollywood i'd actually consider an "actor". and one of even fewer i'd consider a talented one. this was not his best job, but wht can ya do?

Christian Bale is amazing. Has anyone seen him in The Machinist? He lost 63 lbs for that film, then bulked up 100 lbs in 5 months for Batman. Take a look:

i've heard rumors that the joker will be played by crispin glover.

they're supposed to have two-face in part 3.

while i like Bale, the ability to gain and lost weight has nothing to do with acting ability. at all.

I agree, though it does have something to do with the dedication to the profession for a role. It was even more impressive because it wasn't for some big budget movie. I used 'amazing' to describe him because he was physically fit and still lost 1/3 of his body weight.

yeah, i just get sick of people using that excuse for De Niro, who IMO is the most overrated actor of the past 30 years.

I think I'm going to see this movie tonight. Has there really been seven Batman movies out so far??? Somehow I can't believe it. Would someone do a recap for me here?

Oh, and my movie opinions...

Sideways - Classic. Great movie.
Lost In Translation - Didn't like it, seemed weak and unbelievable.
The Machinist - Wanted to see this, is it any good?

According to this, there are only 6. Though there were 2 Batman serials at theatres in the 40's.

I liked Batman Begins as well. As much as I like Christian Bale (another thumbs up for The Machinist btw), I really thought Cillian Murphy and Liam Neeson had the strongest performances. Of course I thought the cast in general was pretty good (KH was better than I thought she was going to be).

With that said, I think the editing wasn't so hot in general but especially in the fight scenes. I can't stand rapid style editing during fight sequences. You really can't tell what's going on and it seems to be covering things up. I also thought the cheap comical asides ("nice car!") were totally unneccessary and took away from the tone of the movie.

i thought that the ending of the machinist negated the bulk of it. i liked everything up until that but then i really felt cheated.

i just watched the machinist and thought it was pretty good and i'll probably buy the dvd at some point. i knew bale lost weight for the role but it was pretty startling to see how actually thin he was. also, i realized after the film that the director is the same guy who did session 9, which was pretty fucking awesome and i'm wondering why i don't own that movie. apparently he's remaking george romero's the crazies for release next year. glad that he's getting away from romantic comedies that he started out his career with.

(revs chainsaw) Who made the crack about Garden State?!?

I've been losing a lot of interest in movies lately. Way too gimicky for my tastes with too much focus on every movie being a blockbuster. The whole sequal/ remake/ adaptation craze that's been going on has been making me want to vomit. That said there are only two movies i can think of wanting to see anytime soon... The Corpse Bride and Howl's Moving Castle. Possibly adaptions themselves but at least it's from something i haven't heard of.

I saw this today. Easily the best of the Batman movies. It took the "dark" that Burton tried to create in the original and made it more palpable, for me. Kinda Brazil-like, if that makes sense. For the record, I think it whips both Spiderman movies, too.
