Crooked Rain Crooked Rain is my least favorite Pavement record. It's good, of course, since Pavement have never made a weak record, but it's so clean, pristine, unfocused, with tracks that occasional wear past their welcome. I've always seen it as the transitional record between their S&E mastery and the rest of their career. Brighten the Corners is twice as relistenable to me than CRCR.

And OK Computer is infinitely better than anything post OK Computer (IMO) The Bends is the only one that can compare.

Thus, I like the top 10 alright..anxious to find the rest of it.

Decent top 10, and not too far from acclaimedmusic.net's for albums in the same range

And comparing that to the 90s records in RS's Top 500:
Nirvana, Nevermind
U2, The Joshua Tree
Public Enemy, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
Guns 'N Roses, Appetite for Destruction
U2, Achtung Baby
Prince, Purple Rain
Paul Simon, Graceland
Prince, Sign 'O' the Times
Radiohead, The Bends
Run-DMC, Raising Hell

That's probably more what the mainstream would want to see...

It's amazing just how little Spin's taste has changed in music over the years. It's like they just took their year-end album lists from the period and compiled them together without reshuffling. No re-examination whatsoever.

I'll have to pick this up. I have not touched Spin in a while. I thought one of the last good issues was the one about the beginnings of hair metal on the Sunset Strip.

When the Crue ruled all that was Hollywood

Don't you just read people's magazines for free anyway ;)

When I worked as a concierge I had to sort the mail and the residents always got their magazines a day late.

Yeah, but somehow it's less infuriating when you don't have to say, "I paid money for this crap?!?"

It's still better than Blender.
