I'll beat the dead horse. MIA sucks, and I don't get why everybody is wacking off to how good the beats are. It's truly awful music.

I don't get why you have to prove how much you hate something just because other people like it.

Is that why I'm doing it. Maybe I just think it's shit, and want to talk about why everybody doesn't think it's shit because the thread is about what we think about metacric's top 25. Everybody's complaining about there is no music discussions anymore, and as soon as somebody tries to start one, somebody always gets their panties in a bunch. A discussion is more than a jerk fest.

Look I know I listen to shit that you probably think sucks. I'm okay with that. Tell me that Waylon Jennings is a no talent redneck, and I'm not gonna cry about it. Why can't we argue anymore?

Yeah, sorry, some people are able to hate things that suck, even if people are forcing themselves to like shit. Sorry.

I think I may have copied a condensed list or something. I thought it was all of them but there do seem to be quite a few missing.

But no Fiery Furnaces or Andrew Bird?

Fiery Furnaces is technically an EP, so it doesn't count as an album.

An EP? It's got 10 tracks on it and clocks in at over 40 minutes.

For some reason it's being called an EP. I'm with you, though. Over 30 minutes and that's an album.

Unlistenable whatever you call it.

90 Okkervil River - don't know
90 Belle & Sebastian - good stuff, nothing new though, so why keep it on the list?
87 M.I.A. - horribly overrated/overvalued
87 Sleater-Kinney - sounds good, i suppose. just not my thing. i mean, i'm just not that angry and my personal life is pretty stable...
87 Blueprint - don't know
86 Edan - not as good as it's made out to be, but solid. Some of it plays as too much of a genre exercise for it's own good.
86 The Go-Betweens - don't know
85 The Magic Numbers - don't know
85 Saint Etienne - brilliant, refreshing. Yay.
85 Spoon - underwhelming listen on the whole, although it's another quality britt and eno release
85 Eels - don't know and really don't care
85 System Of A Down - fun fun fun funny and really don't care
84 Shakira - don't know
83 The Hold Steady - overrated in that i vastly prefer the previous record and I have not personally been calling for a return to the E Street era, even if this is pinpoint perfect execution.
83 Kraftwerk - don't know
83 Engineers - big huge MEH
83 The Decemberists - really, who gives a shit?
83 Ry Cooder - don't know
82 The Mountain Goats - don't know, don't care
82 The Russian Futurists - don't know, don't care
82 The Lucksmiths - don't know, don't care
82 Common - half of it is solid, the other half is not unlike the hip hop dave matthews, it's that lightweight...but the solid half is pretty damn good.
82 Mice Parade - oof, nein danke.
81 Akron/Family - don't know
81 The Books - evs.
81 Annie - on the whole, not my thing, but I think "heartbeat" is perfect. And she's so adorable in the video. :)
81 Bloc Party - yay fashion. Get the right look, a passable hook, and you sir have yourself a rock and roll in band in the Oughts. Fucking please.

I pretty much have abandoned new music, but I'd include:

Amerie (yes on the strength of the single alone)
LCD Soundsystem (it's a great walk through dance music history)
Sufjan Stevens (i think this easily trumps Michigan)

-kv.

ok i'll play.

90 Okkervil River - totally grew on me, potential top 20.
87 M.I.A. - i don't care what you say. great dance album. i like it.
87 Sleater-Kinney - i have it, but haven't given it much of a listen.
85 Spoon - possible top 5 candidate. definitely not gtc, but still good enough for me.
83 Kraftwerk - any fan of kraftwerk will dig this double disc live set. nothing you haven't heard before, but great selections.
83 Engineers - possible top 20.
83 The Decemberists - haven't given this enough of a listen.
82 Mice Parade - possible top 10. i fuckin love this album.
81 The Books - not as good as i anticipated it to be.
81 Bloc Party - possible top 20. once again, i don't care what you say.

the rest either i never heard of, or don't have the album, or don't care. only other ones i'm interested in hearing on that list: saint etienne, eels, and belle & sebastian.

87 M.I.A.: Easily in my Top-10. One of the more interesting electronic releases of the year. She is so hot.
87 Blueprint: I understand what he's trying to do, but it's not for me. Bring back RJD2.
82 Common: Kanye + Jay Dee + Common = Excellent. This easily makes up for whatever the hell Electric Circus was trying to do.
81 Annie: More accessible than MIA and a lot of fun. This made my Top-10 of 2004 without any trouble at all. Richard X is the man!

87 M.I.A. - Good but I'm a little tired of it now.
87 Sleater-Kinney - I dunno if I'm really feeling this one.
87 Blueprint - It's decent but there's no way it should be rated higher than...
86 Edan - Awesome album. Easily in my top 3.
85 Spoon - Definitely should have a higher rating even though I don't think it's their best album.
83 The Hold Steady - Got bored of it really quickly. Shut up about the goddamn 'hoodrats'
82 Common - Haven't listened to it yet.
81 Annie - Haven't listened to the whole thing yet either but Chewing Gum is a great song.
81 Bloc Party - Haven't gotten into it besides a few songs.

Only Spoon & Edan would be in my top 10 if I had to make my list now.

This is my top 10 of the year right now:

1. Lorna
2. Harris Newman
3. Antony and the Johnsons
4. Herman Dune
5. Colleen
6. Bonnie Prince Billy & Matt Sweeney
7. Sleater-Kinney
8. Low
9. Okkervil River

85 Eels - Really good songcraftsmanship.
85 LCD Soundsystem - Loving this.
83 Kraftwerk - Nothing new under the sun, but a couple of interesting different takes on a couple of the classics. A little bit too staid. Would've been great as a boot.
82 Mice Parade - Dig it!
82 Stars - I like it a lot better than Heart.
81 Annie - So last year.
81 Low - Not as good as Open (Cowboy Junkies), but still their best album (this from a non-Low-lover).

This is what I got. Snot much.

90 Okkervil River - I like but don't love... gonna be real close to the end of the top 20 this year.
90 Belle & Sebastian -
87 M.I.A. - Loved at first, forgot about it until I saw it here.
87 Sleater-Kinney - Hated at first, put it away for a few months, then it hit me that this is a killer record.
87 Blueprint -
86 Edan - Awesome. Top 2 or 3 hip-hop album this year.
86 The Go-Betweens - Decent but forgettable.
85 The Magic Numbers -
85 Saint Etienne - Meh.
85 Spoon - Always a solid choice.
85 Eels - Good. Nothing more, nothing less.
85 System Of A Down -
84 Shakira -
83 The Hold Steady - Not better than last year's, but still a fine piece of work.
83 Kraftwerk - Awesome.
83 Engineers - Tiring.
83 The Decemberists - These guys, on a scale of 1-10, will only ever reach a 7 for me.
83 Ry Cooder -
82 The Mountain Goats - Meh.
82 The Russian Futurists - This is my favorite album of the year so far.
82 The Lucksmiths - Not bad, not bad at all.
82 Common - A good return to form but pales in comparison to his earlier work.
82 Mice Parade - Very nice... top 15.
81 Akron/Family - Also very nice... also top 15.
81 The Books - See the Decemberists. I liked Prefuse's remixes better.
81 Annie - Shelf-life expired.
81 Bloc Party - Definitely top 10 material.
