i think this is the first ive heard of this record. you people let me down.

I'm figgering that it must be way indie-hip, because my local indie-hipster music store has been trying to get me a copy for a month. No joy yet.

Still waiting for the Wilco to do something more for me. Great gig, but something's not quite there in the album.

Van Lear Rose is... fine. No fucking way is it top 3 or top 10 stuff even for me, and I don't have too many 2004 albums yet. Way less than the kids at Uncut, for sure!

Streets and Franz and REM are all ok but nothing special-- pretty overrated here to my ear.

I like the Elliot Smith album, and I expect to like the AMC and Nick Cave and DBT ones. Lambchop over Libertines I don't buy. Quick, name a song that really struck you off Aw C'mon the way one of the Libertines tunes does.

Blue Nile and Laura Veirs and Bjork would be higher on my list, but then I'm a girl so I guess they would be. ;)

Malin may be taking a hit from his too-close association to Adams. I thought this album was pretty good, but no-one listened to it.

Nice catch on the Jonathan Richman album, which is a small, well formed delight.

There's a big write up on them/it in I believe The Kinks issue...

I meant to put up a thread at the time, but I guess I never got around to it.

Still have yet to hear a note, though.

Katie, you should be disappointed in yourself not in the board. I know that rparis, dreaded marco and others have discussed the Richmond Fontaine album this year.

One of the things that bothers me about Uncut's list is the inconsistency between their year-end rankings and their reviews. They gave Tihista a 5 star rating (their highest) for instance and it doesn't show until #52. A bunch of things in their top 20 were 4 - 41/2 stars in their reviews. Seems odd.

I also wish Nicolai Dunger could have made it. I figured Uncut was probably the only magazine he really had a shot at.

I’ve seen worse lists.

Got ‘em & probably in my top 20 or so:

6., 9, 20, 26, 37, 42, 43, 65

Don’t got ‘em, but on the want list:

4, 11, 13, 14, 17, 23, 24, 51

Got it, but don’t get it

70

And, no Joseph Arthur? Willard Grant Conspiracy? Jesse Sykes? O well…..it ain’t my list.

I think i should subscribe to this magazine...really seems to be pretty close to my tastes.

I have discussed Richmond Fontaine many times here. I actually think that their last album, Winnemucca is better than Post to Wire, although PTW is a good album. They are a Portland band - kind of an Uncle Tupelo vibe lyrics like good stories. Montgomery Park is a great tune off of PTW.

not a terrible list...dull and safe, but some truly great albums on there i.e. wilco, david byrne.

Willard Grant Conspiracy came out in the UK in 2003 and I think it was pretty high on their list last year.

Rparis, you should definitely read Uncut regularly. Its the best music mag in my opinion. There's little reason to subscribe though. I think its actually more expensive to subscribe in the US than just pick it up at the newstand.

billy, i was being sarcastic. plus, i'm not sure why i should be disappointed in myself.

i guess i missed the times that rparis et. al has talked about them just as i'm sure that i've missed the hundreds of other bands that people have mentioned. for that, at least, i'm sorry -- seeing that rparis has good taste and clearly likes them.

:P I knew you were being sarcastic. Perhaps you didn't get that I was also.

Personally, I haven't been very impressed by Richmond Fontaine so I don't really think you need to be too hard on yourself for missing any discussion of them.

Yup. My top 3 aren't on the list.

1. Blonde Redhead- Misery is a Butterfly
2. Autolux- Future Perfect
3. Razorlight- Up All Night

I think my top 3 is set for '04. The rest, haven't thought about yet.

But:
8, 10, 40, 58, 59 will probably show up on my Top 20.

I want:
2, 24, 36, 45, 47, 50, 65, 69

50. Sondre Lerche - Two Way Monologue
53. Paul Westerberg - Folker
66. David Byrne - Grown Backwards

These are the only ones that will either make my Top 20 or honorable mention. The rest, I either haven't heard or didn't really think were all that great.

It's not that odd. A review will be the opinion of one writer. The End-Of-Year-List will be compiled by the whole staff.
