I just found out that my 53 year-old mother purchased and enjoys the new Gwen Stefani album. She starting singing Hollaback Girl to me on the phone.

I hung up on her.

I will now light myself on fire.

WAIT WAIT!!! Set her on fire first, then you. Usually I'd just say to just set her on fire but since you're her kid you may eventually fall prey to the same bad taste. Maybe not, but we can't take that chance.

One of the great things about being a total recluse is I never ever hear songs that annoy me because the only music I'm exposed to is the music I buy.

Of course it's not all good, what with the crushing loneliness and everything but you makes your choices and who's to say the unrelenting black cloud of my existance would be any lesser if I had to hear Crazy Frog all fucking day?

i used to be like you, for a very long time. then i changed DJ locations from bored people who didn't care or make requests to hip hop fans who demanded i have all the latests hits. so i decided i would enjoy it and make them happy.

it really changed my whole outlook on pop songs, and i really enjoy keeping up with it.

sure i reach a point where if i have to ban "lean back" or "drop it like it's hot" and make premetive bans on "hollerback girl"

but for the most part, i'm glad they make me keep up to date every week.

On the contrary, I think this is one of the best songs at the moment.

"Love will tear us apart"
My local bar's jukebox has a button that when pressed plays the 'most popular' track on the juke box. for the last 7 or 8 months, this song has been love will tear us apart. unfortunately, people often hit the 'P' button on accident, which only adds to the total play count. long story short, 3-4 times a week (i heart booz) i hear this song 5-6 times during the course of my otherwise blissful drinking. this used to be a good song, and now i wish that it had never existed.

the good news is that after months of lobbying, the bartender and I have successfully convinced the owner to get rid of at least that one song, which makes me feel happy.

I <3 Hollaback Girl. I bet it's really high on the Pitchfork singles list.

I vote "We Are All On Drugs" by Weezer. Not one redeemable feature about it.

Some others: Pussycat Dolls - "Don't cha" (a band of 30 nameless models all singing in unison a Lou Bega melody?); Rob Thomas - "Lonely No More"; Backstreet Boys - "Incomplete"; Will Smith - "Switch"; Eminem - "Ass Like That"

I was thinking of annoying radio singles but this definitely qualifies. Take back Rob Thomas, this song takes the cake. I'm sure it will be Weezer's next single after 'Beverly Hills.'

Yeah one of the radio stations here plays that song a lot. I might hate that song more than Beverly Hills.

I have a solution to all your earworm problems. Pink Martini, "Lilly" -- I get it stuck in my head, and I like it.

Ah, yes, I'd forgotten why it was I never went to those things. Now I remember. That and I was too dorky to be asked to go with the group. But I wouldn't have gone anyway! So there!

as opposed to every other beat he's ever made? the only difference between not and 5 years ago is now he gets these beats by bangin girls.

It's a good beat. Simple yet really good. There's not even any synths for half the song, just that drum beat. I don't love it or anything, but anyone who hates this song doesn't know enough women aged 18-25 (not that you can ever know enough 18-25 yo girls i suppose).
